thanks for your reply. I have read a bit on the other thread about kidney probs but to be honest felt bad posting on there as ur los seem to be having really serious probs and id have felt a bit of a fraud!

No ones told us anything really, its all been a bit of a shock to be honest as he was such a healthy baby when he was born, Weve only had the one water infection then one clinic app at hospital where he said it was routine to organise a scan, after 2 wks we hadnt heard owt so we assumed all was fine as not expecting probs anyway, then we got a call saying one was enlarged and hed need a mag 3 which he had thursday, so no ones really discused any kind of problems he may have or anything they mite need to do.

I was just wondering really as we havent been told its blocked just that its draining slower that maybe they wouldnt actually need to do anything (meaning ops and things) and theyd just maybe want to keep an eye on him. Does any1 know from their own childs experience if thats likely to be the case?

Forgot to mention they may put him on a low dose antibiotics if he's had an infection and his kidney is enlarged, it's quite a common thing just a precaution. My LO has  a 1ml every night. Both my LO kidneys were very enlarged prenatally. Just forgot to mention all that earlier.

Hi, firstly there's a whole bunch of us on here with these sorts of problems. First if it's just the one kidney then don't worry too much. My LO has two damaged kidneys and I would give anything for one that worked, as one fully functioning kidney is good enough. I don't know if they were more specific with you? did they suggest a blockage of some sort that is stopping it from draining or did they mention reflux? I'm no medical expert so I don't want to point you in the wrong direction. Just kidneys are pretty tough things for example my sons were functioning very bad at birth but after an op to remove a blockage that has stopped urine from refluxing back into them they are now functioning normally even though they are both damaged, we just have to keep a very close eye on them to make sure the function doesn't get worse. Anyway I'm sure if any of they other girls see this post they may be able to give you some more info but like I said if one kidney is ok then I'm sure your LO will be fine.

Hi, its first time ive been on this forum.

Ds whos 11mths has just had a mag 3 test today, the man who did it (not sure what they are called) said that 1 kidney was draining slower than the other. We dont get the proper results until his clinic app on 24th spet so quite a while to wait, left wondering.

    Bit of background.

He seemed fine in himself since he was born, apart from having milk intolerence this was diagnosed at 5mths old. Then he got a water infection at 5 n a half mths, he was refered to hospital as routine procedure and his consultant didnt think he would have any further problems as hes always been fine in himself. He was shocked to get his results from his scan which showed an enlarged left kidney by 1cm more than the right one.

Nothing was picked up at my antenatel scans and i had trouble free pregnancy. My eldest dd has never had any probs, but ds grandma has got kidney probs herself but different to ds.

Just wondering really if any1 has experienced anything similiar and if any1 has any idea of what they might do about it, if its something he might grow out of for example, or if it could cause any more problems in future.

Thank you in advance for any answers.
