grrr people make me so angry. i have a son 2.5 yrs old who has downs, when we go out i can understand people looking at children i guess we all do it,but when some of them look with a certain look on thier face i could really smack them one.and also i don't think that age should be an excuse for ignorance.

im sorry u had to go through this upset but there is ppl still like this out there. Our children will not be like that as they understand everyone is different. As dd1 said about a lil girl in her class she is a late bloomer mummy. x nat & morgan-reece, 2 girls

I know it's not nice to hear those comments but it sounds like her words were not intended to cause offence ( imo she could of said much much worse!), more a case of her not being 'educated' in disability awareness.  I have a 3 year old who has a syndrome which causes very different features, which used to be known as something less 'kind' as what it is known as today, as were lots of others.  At least we are going in a much more positive direction with disabilities these days.

its only now that we are going back to how things used to be and not segregating epople for being 'different', and people of a certain age wont be sued to seeing people with learning dificulties in society, therefore would not have as much experience of knowing what to say as its only now that most institutes are shutting down etc. blame the industrial revolution for that one. as long as we ensure that todays children and taught not to judge etc then society will eventually even out again.

i have a chld with downs and ok about most coments and looks etc but that peeved me off so what they look different in most cases you cant tell is mainly a learning disability were trying not to make them feel different which i dont belive they are and you have ppl like this lady who may or maynot have know what she wa saying but im sure as times have passed she woul dhave heard correct terminology etc

OMg that is disgusting.. my daughters problem is similar to downs syndrome and i never had to learn to love her.. I loved her the second she was born, and even inside me.

Some people need to think before they speak. I don't mind people asking questions, but hate it when they just stare.

people are a product of their times unfortunately, all we can do is educate our children not to see people with learning difficulties and disabilities as different to us and to integrate as society.

i know what u mean...me and my partner are both profoundly deaf and they will come up to us and say things like, oh your deaf and dumb, how do u manage that? is your son deaf and dumb too? i will tell them no he is fine and they say oh that is so lucky i bet your really pleased! i wouldnt care if he was deaf or not! i know just how well deaf people can manage in life and i know nothing has ever stopped  me or my partner doing anything, but my son is not deaf and i’m just as happy! he is my son whatever disability he may r may not have! he could be a gorilla with 6 eyes and 20 feets and i wouldnt love him any less! deaf people are not thick, and we dont need pity from people! we even had a man in the street see us doing sign language, he stopped us started preaching to god about it! i mean wtf?!?!

That's awful that someone can be so ignorant and patronising but it does happen. There are stupid people in this world and basicaly just treat them as that. I wouldn't change my ds James he's a delight and makes me lol every day I really can't imagine my life without him.
