One other thing - you are entitled to receive copies of any and all communications from your bank and BT (Data Protection) - try getting this out o fthem -If no luck form your bank - issue a complaint to the Bank's Compliance Manager (they are LEGALLY obliged to deal with your complaint within a set period of tim e- think it is 7 days) - if fail to do so - take the complaint to the FSA and Banking obudsman. Good luck!
Physically go to your bank and sit in the branch to sort this out otherwise you could be fobbed off from every angle for months.
I changed to paperless billing with BT, to save an extra few quid, and set up direct debit to cover the line rental, and a couple of extra quid should I make calls (which I rarely do!) so it was at £15 a mth to come out of my bank I think. After a while I thought something funny was going on, seemed to have less money than I thought I had and discovered theyd changed it to £30 a mth without telling me, and had been taking it for a few months.
I looked at my online account with them and discovered I was £80 in credit, thought, ok, cool, no bills for a while, and tried to stop paying til that was clear, but they wouldnt let me! A few months of paying the minimum of £10 a mth, I checked my acct again to find I was only £10 in credit, and I really dont get it! Their bills dont make sense to me and I know I havent spent £80+ in a few months
Ive now changed to Swalec, for phone, leccy and gas. I didnt get any refund from BT, and tbh dont expect it. With paperless billing you havent got a leg to stand on!
bt changed how we pay for our calls....we wanted 1/4 bills but they suddenly took it monthly after a couple of months so the amout they took was quite high...... and i cant work out how they make up the charges on the bill........
watch out bt will get you!!!! lol (they got me)!!!
omg thats awful ive just swapped from bt to sky as basically my phone bill for the quater was like £140..oops lol... so ive gone with sky and they do a half price line rental for 6 months so only £5. free evening and weekend calls and what ive done is they have this thing for £15 per month that if you pay the £15 then ALL mobile calls are free for as long asyou want, i said what so i could phone a mobile and chat all day and it wouldnt cost me any more.... nope....sweeet lol..
so now my bill will be £20 a month for the next 6months then £25 after that..... so way cheaper than bt...
if you have sky phone them up and get that will save you lots xx
Oh Luce no way,thats disgusting
What a bunch of b@stards! Hope you get it sorted soon babe x
This is so typical of them it makes me mad. My brother had letters chasing a bill which he had paid. Got to the debt collection threat stage and so in order to protect his credit rating, he paid it and then had to send countless letters, e-mails, phonecalls to get the money refunded with an apology which he eventually did but took an age.
I fookin knew this was you!!! Havent even read your post yet but will now lol
I would get back onto your bank also, surely they must keep records of your banking???? Its not good enough for them to say they dont have the information
omg lucy that's so bad!!!i would get yourself down to your local cab asap for some proper advice, that's alot of money to be losing for something you've already paid.i've been disputing charges from the housing assosiation i used to rent from as they've been trying to charge me court costs for a case that was thrown out of court as it was a total farce on their part and my local cab have been brilliant, they have managed to get it all sorted out for me so that i don't owe anything like i said in the first place.what is it about these big companies always trying to get money out of us for things that we don't owe.grrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
A fortnight ago they terminated my BT mobile contract because they reckoned I hadn't paid four bills! This had happened because although I had set up a direct debit with them, they hadn't taken two of the bills. Well I called them and told them that I had my online banking statement in front me and I could see that two of the bills had been paid. They could see this had happened and they agreed that if I paid the remaining two bills, they would reconnect me. So I told them to go to hell.
Anyway, had the shock of my life today when I checked my online banking and they had taken four bills out of my bank - totalling £230!!! Somehow they managaed to do this - DESPITE APARANTLY NEVER HAVING MY BANK DETAILS!!!
Anyway I phoned them and gave them what for and asked how they managed to take my money if I had supposedly never given them my bank details. They apologised and said it had been a terrible mistake and it was an error on their part. Anyway, I said there was no point rowing about it but that of the four bills they took, i had already paid two and wanted the money refunded. So the girl said 'well we've got no record of any payment' So with a big smug grin I said 'hold on, I'll go back onto my online banking and give you the reference number'
But when I looked, there was no payment. No record of one whatsoever. So she was on the phone saying 'Well if you give me the reference number, I can search for it for you' But I couldnt find it!!! I KNOW I saw it a fortnight ago when I looked after they cut me off. I remember seeing it on the screen. So I had to tell her I couldn't find it.
So then I rang my bank, and I said that BT were disputing a payment and could they search how many times I had paid them. As I expected, he said twice. So I said 'great, can you give me the reference number of the first time I paid it, so I could call BT. Btut then he said 'Oh that's strange, it says two payments, but there's nothing here to say how much!'
I must be going crazy! I SAW it on my online banking, but now it's vanished. Two weeks ago BT said it was there, and I saw it. But now it's gone from their records and gone from my bnak somehow - even though the banking guy reckoned there was some record of it. I don't have paper statements so I've got no back up whatsoever. I'm just so confused and upset.
