Hiya my little boy is 2 and 5 months and all of a sudden he has started to pick up words and putting a couple of words together. I found talking to him lots and saying what things are when were out helped, for example when were shopping I'll tell him what things are and now he's started to repeat things. He's not one of these children to sit down and read books either because he gets easily distracted. All children pick up things at there own pace. xxxxxx

Hi there, my lo was 2 in April and is being referred to speech therapy too, she has had a hearing test but all is fine there. Im still sure that it will just suddenly click as she is very chatty but just doenst make much sense with what she is saying.
I also get told she is being lazy and we are not helping her by family members but we play with her and chat to her and read to her and do as much as humanly possible.
Hope this reassures you slightly.

my ds is almost 2 & 1/2 and I have just asked for him to be refferred as his speech is almost non existent (after saying quite a few words for a while)
His only words now are dog and quack quack (which he uses for all animals!!!), wee wee, baby and two!!! No mummy, daddy or anything else!!!
He is quite badly behaved at the moment too and gets very frustrated when he can't let us know what is wrong or what he wants.
Everyone keeps telling me it's just because he's lazy or he'll talk when he's ready and I am hoping they are right!

Hi, My dd is just over 2 1/2 & has quite poor speach. she says mummy, daddy & nana & does all the animal sounds but will not say the names, she does ask to go wee wee & says night night but other than that she really is a bit behind. I saw a speach therapist back in july who said that she is fine in her self but her speach is a bit slow she suggested doing picture cards & puzzles - which we do anyway - & sent me loads of stuff for her but to be honest just going through it is hard enough for me to understand so dont know how a 2 1/2 yr old is suposed to do it!! she is improving but she is always so busy - she does not sit still from 7.00 am - 7.00pm she just wants to do other things. I am goin back in sept for a review so think I will just carry on with talkin to her the best I can & tryin not to force it. dont know if this helps but is nice to know that you are not the only one.

hi i have been told my 2 and half year old has poor speech for his age aand refrered to a speech theripst i know its not very good but was just woundering how others the same age is and if any one has the same prob and any one has any games ect to help them as he dosent like sitting down reading books he throws tantrums if i try.

They said that my daughter had poor speach when she was two and sent to a speech therapist for assessment. the speech therapist was really horrible she said without treatment my daughter would never talk!!!!!!!!!!!, well because its the nhs i had to wait a year for a speech therapy class, but by then she was talking better than the avarage 3 year old! so she didnt nead any treatment! children develop at different speeds, i wouldnt worry if your child is healthy they will get there eventually.
