My son appears to have an undescended testicle.  It is definitely there but sitting very high up, rather than down in the sack.  He is nearly 18 months old and it was not noticed at any of his checkups

I noticed it and became worried about it a few months back, so went to the doctor.  They have told me that upto the age of around 2 ish there is a chance that it may still descend on its own and that they don't like to operate too early.  I have been told to return to the doctors in about November time and if it still appears to be undescended they will probably refer him to the hospital for further investigation then.

The testicle can be felt higher up and they said that it could be retractile and go up and down/in and out of the sack which I believe is not so much of a problem.  They said it can be hard to examine because if they are retractile the testicles often pull upwards when the are trying to do an examination because the little ones don't like them being fiddled with.  From what I can see with my son his never seems to come down, or at least I've never noticed it since I've been looking, so I think he may end up having to have an op.

I believe the op is quite straight forward and involves them pushing the testicle down and putting in some internal stitches to stop it being able to rise back up again.  Although the thought of my little baby having to have any kind of operation still worries me even if it is a simple one.  HTH

Just to let you know my ds2 has an undescended testicle but this was picked up at his 8 week check (hes only 5 mths now.) He also has fluid in his other testicle which makes them look very odd! Ive been told that there is a good chance that it will correct itself if not when hes about 4 he might have to have a very small quick operation - in and out in a few hrs- and there will be no damage to fertility etc. I just need to get the doctor/HV to keep an eye on it in the meantime. So try not to worry but get it checked out when you get the chance

Thanks hun for the reply. That is reassuring to know everything is ok with your hubby. He has obviously not had any problems with his fertility then.  I would book an appointment this week but as I had an emergency section just 5 weeks ago I cannot drive until I have had my 6 week check.  Pain the backside!!  I have the rely on my dp who can't finish early for one day until next week.  Civil service job, they're a pain in giving anyone time off!!   I will speak to him again this evening & see if there is any way he can finish early to take us to the docs.

Thanks again for the advice & reassurance.

I was wondering if anyone's little boy has had an undescended testicle.  If so what was done to sort the problem out & how is your little boy now.  The reason I ask this is because I think 1 of my 2 year's testicles hasn't dropped.  I spoke to my HV this morning as she came to see my newborn. She said speak to my doc on Monday when I take my newborn for his checkup.  I feel a bit concerned at the moment. I have had this in the back of my mind for a couple of weeks & my dp has said not to worry everything is find, but I don't think it is.  The sack which holds them, only one side seems full, sure it should feel as though there 2 lumps & not 1 if you know what I mean.  I will definitely get the doc to look at this but just wanting a little reassurance from any other mums out there that have gone through this.  Thank you in advance.
