I live in Reading and our checks are being cut down all the time. My 4 year old had one at 6 weeks, 8 months and 2 years. My 2 1/2 year old only had one at 6 weeks and 8 months. My 18 month old only had one at 6 weeks and apparently that is it, she won't get another! I think that is terrible. Oh, just remembered. I got one extra check with dd3. It was about a week before her due date. It was a massive questionaire about my childhood, education, finiancial and schooling concerns - it was totally pointless, none of her business and a waste of time!!

We get letters instead of the 2 and 3 year checks telling you what your lo should be doing, I think they are seen before they start school but not sure.  That means they are not seen from 9 months - apparently this is so they can put resources where they are needed.

I last saw the HV not long after dd turned 2, I think it might have been 2.5 though.  She checked her speech by asking her what pictures were, and checked her leg movement which dd wasn't impressed with!  It wasn't a big deal really, it was simple and quick - just to check you are happy with their development and all the 'normal' stuff is ok.

think it depends on where you live now, my dd was 2 on 14 august and i asked about the 2yr check only to be told that they dont get one till 3 now. If im worried about anything then go to clinic to see health visitor, 6 months ago they did the 2.5yr now thats gone too

I actually just got a letter through today saying my dd (who was 2 on 19th August) has been booked into a local health centre for a 2 year development check on 11th September. I live in South Manchester (Trafford Borough Council). I didn't make any phonecalls or anything they just did it automatically.

Round here this is done at a 2 yr old check.  Except I just got a leaflet through the post with the milestones written on it for you to tick off, and it said if you're worried about anything just go to the HV drop-in clinic. (I don't have the leaflet to hand now, it was 7 months ago, sorry)

Hi, does anyone know if they still do the developmental checks for children at around 2 1/2 , a friend of mine was talking about it the other day, where her child was asked to make a tower of blocks etc, her child is older. Is this simply another thing that has been cancelled due to lack of funds /staff in some areas?
