My DS went through this at about 2 1/2, he would have only have eaten cheese tomatos and bread.  I continued to put the same food as us in front of him and he went without for quite a while, however, he is now an amazing eater that eats anything and is totally not fussy.  I think that you need to stick to your guns otherwise it'll be chicken nuggets forever more!! Hopefully you can help!  Ds is aged 2 and a half years, and he refuses to eat what we are eating.  If he got his way he would have chicken nuggets / chips every night.  I have tried so many things for him to eat at tea time but he is very difficult.  I have been cooking him a separate tea for sometime now and tonight I decided enough was enough and that he would have to have what we were having.  I made it clear to him that if he didn't eat his tea he wouldn't get anything else until his bedtime drink, but unfortunately he refused to eat is lovely Sunday Chicken dinner.  What would you do?? xx
