I've never taken a potty out with me so outside the house dd has always used either a proper toilet or gone behind a tree.
But we still have the potty at home, she's been using both that and the toilet for over a year now, it never really occured to me to lose the potty tbh. I guess it's easier for her to get to quickly if she needs to, like if someone else is already using the toilet.....
I suppose it might speed things up to just not have a potty at all but I'm happy with my dd using both.

thanks ladies. Yep, I do let lo see me using the toilet, but he keeps saying No to it. Guess I'll just try biting the bullet one day & loose the potty. I'll make a special deal of going & getting the toilet seat too. Thanks for your help. Jx7/10/08 16:12
When Dh was around, we just went out without it. made sure DS went to the loo before we left home and when he had to go he had no choice but to use the toilet. Dh took him in and had to hold him on it and gave him lots of praise. that was 3 months ago and we haven't had to take the potty out since. we have got a little loo seat for the toilet at home and he has just started to use that, so pottys will go altogether soon. good luck x

Hi, my little one is also 26 months. can i ask if yours has seen you use the toilet? i started pretending to use the toilet while my little one was using the potty i did that for about a week then took the potty away. we took him to choose his own toilet seat and step telling him that it was a special treat as he was a big boy now and put it on the toilet. he is a bit short so i help him get on the toilet. i used stickers or his favourite raspberries as treats if he did a wee on the toilet he was a bit nervous at first but now he shouts for me when he wants to use the toilet. we have yet to master using the toilet when we are out as he wont use public loos so if we are going out for a while we still use a nappy. naughty i know.

How do I go about this? My 26month old has happily been using a potty for around a month- how do I now move on so I don't have to take a potty out everywhere we go? Thanks, Jx
my ds will happily use both potty and toilet!!! obviously when we are out and about, he will use public toilets or get him behind a tree if hes desperate. we have a toilet upstairs and downstairs at home and also a potty downstairs an he will use either. he is using the toilet more and more now.
i think they will do it when they are are ready to make that change. good luck. x
