Thanks Verity. Are you ill today? xx
24/10/08 13:43
hi lou,
no I dont think you over reacting at all. I would feel the same, actually I see this as a good and resonable decision.
Dont worry the right child and family is there just waiting for you.
24/10/08 12:25
jungle sounds, make some noise, Gills jamboree....
Bad news on the childcare front, the child that I was hoping to take on seems to come with quite a challenging background, apparently they have been banned from all nurseries in Bedford as the childs gran is a total phsyco and threatens people all the time for fun.
This would not bother me in a work environment, but being at home with my kids there I dont feel comfortable introducing that kind of behaviour.
Do I sound snobby? Am i doing the right thing?
Have hadd another call today about another child, so I know the work is out there.

23/10/08 20:10
Hi guys. Sorry about your Dad, V, hope today has been OK for you.
Gill, I live near Cambridge. I've tried writing to my MP to no avail, how did you manage to get a case worker? I want one!
Lou, such good news. Will keep everything crossed for you. But if not, how about sticking a card up at a few toddler groups? Near the tea / coffee area is good. I've noticed some at a group I go to, but it's not local to where I live. Will have a look at the w/site later, sounds good!
Urgh, horrible weather here. And work tomorrow.
23/10/08 12:54
Big hugs to you V. ((((()))))
I could pick up from Plymouth, but you would have to pay for petrol! lol!

Actually, some very good news today (I know, does not happen much on here does it?!) at my childminding course last night I got talking to the tutor about teen parents and it turns out they are looking for someone to care for a 14 month old baby of a teen mum.... who used to attend my old workplace (before my time, but she used to visit a lot).
Talk about fate! She is coming over next Thurs to chat. The gov't pay for her fees and it would be term time only - which is perfect for me. Keep everything crossed for next Thursday ladies - I would not need to recruit anymore families if I got this one on board!

Hi everyone, today is crap day for me, dad died 10 years ago today, so ive had a few tears today.
Just wanted to say as well. Lou i have had a sneeky peek at you website and its fab. I would defo consider you looking after jonny if it need someone, it look very professional.
what about asking the local preschools or your school if you can put up a leaflet or even if hey would allow you to put one in the kids book bag. maybe.
Do you do pick ups from Austin farm in Plymouth

Hi Gill, Yes I am listed with the local childrens info service and have adverts around the local area. Need to get some in the local newsagents etc and was going to ask the drs surgery if i can put one up there. I have my own website now - www.louisebambury.vpweb.co.uk going to try and post the link EVERYWHERE!
We have all woken up with stinky colds this morning, Holly has been snotty for a few days, but has managed to give it to the rest of us. Lissy cant stop sneezing and steve has a sore throat (which is obviously worse than anyone elses!) and I just feel rubbish. Have an overwhelming urge to go and indulge myself in the choc digestives that are calling my name! I WILL RESIST! (Fat club tonight!)
Good for you being proactive with the tax people Jen, they are so rubbish but at least you persevered and got an answer, even though it means you will struggle for a while.
What days did you say you are free in half term????
How are you doing Verity? Any more issues with the neighbours?
22/10/08 20:59
hi all
wow you all sound as though you have been busy
the tax credits is horrible jen i've had so many probs with them that i got my local councillor involved i now have my own case worker lol
lou have you put some cards up in the local shops around you or have you got your name with the local childrens info service that might help for finding people who want a childminder
hi verity how are you
i went to london at the weekend to see les miserables and i'm starting up my own toddler music group
jen where is it you live

Well, I didn't just shove it to the back of my mind! I found a local HMRC advice centre instead! Finally someone to sit and talk to and go over why my payments have dropped so much. It's a temporary drop because I was being overpaid for the first six months of this financial year. Then next April my payments will settle somewhere a bit higher than they are now, but not as high as they were, which is about what I was expecting. Feeling very relieved. The next 6 months will be tough but I can get through them. Phew!
Shot to pieces now. Emotionally wrung out and did a long run earier so physically shattered too! Should sleep well tonight!

Sorry about the childminding, Lou, hope it picks up soon. And don't be down on yourself either. I've seen your photos on facebook and you are definitely not a whale! You looked great on that TV show too. I think everyone has body image issues, you'd probably be really surprised if you chatted to those size 8 girls about it, I bet even they have bits they hate about themselves. We should be more accepting really. I'm not far off a size 8 now, but I hate my flabby stomach with its loose skin and stretch marks. Stuck with it though.
Just phoned the tax credit help line and overpayments line. I'm wondering why they call it a 'help' line, really. I'm no further forward despite a total of 45 mins on the phone. Just advice to write to head office. Which I've done about 10 times. They don't acknowledge the letters. So I'll shove this back to the back of my mind for another month or so and try again. Which has been my attitidue over the last year!
20/10/08 20:19
I can totally sympathise with the money worries Jen, I still not had even one single enquiry about childminding and the one part time child I do have is possible leaving as his mum cant get her backside in gear to get here on time in the morning. GRRRRR!
Looking at other jobs (yet again) but there is just nothing about at moment.

Weekend in London was nice, we had a really relaxed day on Sat and went for a walk around Streatham common before a pub lunch and then a lazy afternoon. BUT when we went out on saturday evening I felt like a whale. All the other "hens" are size 8-10 and I felt like the token fat girl. My own self confidence issues I know, but i felt so out of place and was really subdued. So annoyed with myself.
20/10/08 20:10
it just goes to show, the tax credit system is great as long as nothing changes in your life.
Im so sorry your having probs jen.
its awful, the things you have about cutting out. I cant remember the last time I went out for an evening, cos we just cant afford it.
20/10/08 20:04
oh, and to add insult to injury, hr c***ed up my new contract, and i won't get my payrise until november. backdated, but still, with the drop in tax credits, i need it now!!

sorry, i don't really just come on here to rant. honest.
20/10/08 20:02
Hi guys. Glad all quiet on the home front, Verity!
The tax credit people have cut my payments in half. Yes, that's right, you did read it right! Half as much money.

I knew I was probably being overpaid, and also with the increase in pay with the new job, and drop in childcare with Alex at school, I knew it would drop a fair bit. But to cut it in half? That can't be right! Can just about make ends meet, but no more luxuries for me. And I'll be scouring the reduced counter in Tesco with renewed vigor next week.

19/10/08 20:26
hi guys....
im good, myleen was very nice apparentely, but i wasnt in.
been really busy in work, other than that i havent done much.
all quiet with neighbours thank god.
19/10/08 09:27
Hi guys. Hope you have (had) a lovely w/end in London, Lou. Sounds great! And well done on the sewing, V, I'm hopeless at that kind of stuff too. It will definitely be Tesco for me if Alex needs any fancy dress!
Loads to do in the house today. Yesterday was a total write off, as although Chris should have had the boys, Alex had a party 2-4 that he desperately wanted to go to, so I had them until after that. Added to that, Chris has been in the states with work and not had them for a couple of weeks, I really could have done with yesterday. Still, the painting is getting there. Badly need to move my furniture back where it belongs as it's driving me crazy!
Lou - I'm off work the Monday of half term and also free on the Tuesday, so let me know if you fancy getting together either day?

Gosh, Lou and Verity, what great ideas you came up with! I just can't compete! Good luck, though Gill. It sounds very ambitious, but I'm not at all musical. Just read the most beautiful and awesome book called An Equal Music by Vikram Seth though. You guys have all now got to read it, I feel almost evengelical about spreading the word on this one!!
Sorry to hear you're ill, Verity. You seem to have had a bit of a rough time of it over the last few weeks. Hope you are getting better now.
And Lou, I totally agree with V, you need to put yourself and your girls first and not take on this child. Better to be a snob than risk inviting that kind of behaviour into your home. Stick with it. Did I suggest putting a card up at toddler groups? I thought of it and meant to!
Right, a glass of white and another book! My Friday night in. Not too bad all said and done!
