Thanks for the replys it's reasuring to know other babies do it.Alfie was taken into hospital on thur night with a high temp, still in now.So i thought it was my ideal opportunity to get to the bottom of the straining. They think it's definatly reflux and started him on renatidine twice a day and said to carry on with gaviscon.Did that work for Theo then? Alfie hasn't done it since seven pm last night which is the longest he's ever not done it for! Everytime he makes a noise i hold my breath incase he starts again!! Alfie is also pooing alot more with being on antibiotics so i wasn't sure which was helping him.

One thing they also said is i could be over feeding him as he has over 200mls a day more than he needs. They nearly had heart attack when i said about which bottles do i put the 6 doses of gaviscon in as he can have up to 10.Made me feel like a crap mother even though my health visitor told me you can't over feed a small baby?! Anyway back to the hospital where hopefully i'll find my new relaxed baby!

Theo did this too, all the time it was so bad i barely slept as he was keeping me awake, We got told for ages that it was just a thing that prem babies do, he did it in his sleep too, but i don't think theo's was painful as he never cried. Eventually they agreed it was reflux and he now has gaviscon in every bottle and 1ml of renatidine every day. Also i found having him sleep on a slope seemed to help a lot. Just put a few blankets underneath their matresses.

When Theo was 'rooming in' with me before he came home i was always buzzing the nurses through the night as i was so worried about him, but they insisted that he was fine the whole time. He was just a noisy baby. In the end this wasn't true. I don't think anybody would make them noises and strain all night for no reason

we've had the same problem with my ds, they've now put him on special milk as they've said he has a milk intolerance which hasn't made any difference to him really and he has shown no other symptoms and puts on weight really well, its a bit of a nightmare because we are literately at the doctors once a week because he's obviously in alot of pain and we keep getting brushed off with all different things, which aren't helping, unfortunately It'll probably just be a case of keep going back and hassling, I'm currently doing a dairy of when it happens, how long for, how long after feed, and what he's like (eg straining, screaming, etc) and when he has a dirty nappy, to see if maybe they can pick anything up from that. I just harrass my surgery

    Hello,I'm new on here!

Just after some advice and opinions please.I'm a mum to a 11week old baby boy who was born 10 weeks prem.Hes been home since he was 35weeks gestation and is doing well,he was born at 2lb 9oz and now weighs 6lb 4oz.

One problem he has,if it is a problem is he constantly makes straining noises. We've asked numerous health proffesionals and the responses have varied from colic and reflux to it's because he's prem or it's just him! It does sound like he's straining to poo but they say he can't be constipated as he goes once a day and it's not hard. I'ts really frustrating watching him do it as he seams in alot of pain. We've tried numerous colic remedies and he is currently on gaviscon but he still does it.Sometimes for hours at a time.

Does anybody have any experiance of this or advice.Feel like i'm bangng my head against a wall as were getting no where and i feel so sorry for him. Any help or advice would be much appreciated.

    Thanks
