i did try replying last time but comp crashed

my ds was born at 34 weeks, weighing 3lb 11. his growth scan at 29 weeks put him at a normal weight of 3lb roughly, however, due to uncontrollably bp they did another scan and that only put him at 3lb 3. i did some research and it could be the bp tablets i was on for the duration of pregnancy.

    hope you all well

I can sympathise with how you feel as can probably most special care mums as leaving your baby behind in hospital is soooo hard. My daughter was born at 28+5 on the 16th of June weighing 2lb 11 and dropped down to 2lb 2.9 oz but she's now almost 6 weeks old and 3lb 6.5 oz and on her way up.

Weight isnt the be all and end all in those little ones. As long as she is fighting fit she will get there. They are strong lil ones and often manage to amaze us.

I had been through the scbu journey before with my son who was born at 30+2 weeks and was in just 4 weeks but it definitely is just as hard second time around, espcially now that its all taking longer. Cant wait to get her home.

    Hello

I can also sympthise with your situation i had a c section at 26 weeks as my little girl had stopped growing inside of me and was 1 pound 5 oz when born and went down to 1 pound 3 oz. She is now 11 months old (uncorrected) 8 months (corrected) and she doing so well. It is such a rollercaster ride of emotions but i promise you that you will start to learn to cope please feel free to PM me if you need any further advise or someone to listen to you

Just read your thread and can really empathise with you. I too had a ds at 29 weeks, my waters went at 28 and she followed shortly after. She weighed 3lb 1oz but dropped to 2lb 8oz however i don't think weight is the be all and end all, there were babies bigger than her who were more poorly and babies smaller who were stronger it is a combination of weight, development and will power!

It is medically proven that the girls do better in NICU and my ds never had any problems she was in for 5 weeks just till she grew to a safe weight to come home. It is incredibly hard having a baby in the unit and at the time there seems to be know light at the end of the tunnel BUT there is. She is receiving the very best care and will be home soon, and you soon forget what a small proportion of their life it will be.

My ds is 16 months now and although she is a little behind in development (still not walking) she is otherwise fit, healthy and beautiful.

The very best of luck to you and your family xxxx

Your thread made me cry when I read it. Although not exactly the same circumstances, I understand how you are feeling. My ds was born at 30 weeks (waters broke at 27 weeks) weighing just ovewr 3lb and I remember feeling the same way  as you.  I was really scared and just prayed he would be OK and just felt so guilty.  Guilty because I felt it was all my fault that he arrived early and guilty that he was alone in hospital when I couldn't be there.

Losing weight is normal in the first couple of weeks and you say that the drs think she is doing well- so that's a really good sign.  It is hard leaving them in the hospital but you have to remember that your lo really is in the best place and will receive the best care there.

The only thing that kept me sane was focussing on the day my lo would come home with me.

Anyway, he is one next week and is doing great - he now weighs 23lb and is a really happy little man and I am so proud of him!!

I hope you take some comfort from this, please pm me if you want to chat.

    x
