I haven`t personally been through my child having hearing loss but my very good friends daughter (born at 24 weeks) has severe to profound loss on the left and moderate to severe on the right. Although it wasn`t picked up until she was 2 she has come on really well with her speech. She tends to shout a bit, but that is usually when her hearing aids need sorting. We all learnt makaton when she was younger to make communication easier but her lip reading skills from an early age were brilliant.

She is 8 now and has radio aids at school and is very happy, has no problems in the classroom or playground. Her favourite trick is to switch off her ha`s when she doesn`t want to hear something, ie being told to clean her room!!

I know her mum got a lot of support from the national deaf childrens society, I`m sure you could google their contact info.

Any q`s, please feel free to ask, if I don`t know the answer I will find it for you.
