Thanks for all your advice and support. The SCBU can be a scary place and I'm finding it very difficult. My los are doing well. They've put on weight and are now 3lb 11oz and 4lb 2oz but are still being tube fed and in incubators. I had hoped they'd be home within 4 weeks but we're in the middle of the third week and there's no sign of them coming home any time soon. I know from reading all your replies that I'm very lucky and this is just a waiting game. Thanks for your help. x

My lo was born at 32 weeks weighing 4lb 7. She had a few breathing problems and had to be ventilated as she wasn`t coping on cpap. After 9 days she was moved from intensive care to a nursery within scbu and came home at 22 days old. I have had 2 babies under 30 weeks (26+2 and 29+5) and they came home almost at their due dates. They always tell you to aim for getting them home at their due date, anything earlier is a bonus!
Congratulations, hope you are all home together soon xx

little liam was in scbu for just over 13 wks so just past his due date i first daughter was in scbu as well 10yrs ago born at 30wks and only in for 6 i think as long as they are gaining weight not to sicky and managing four hourly feeds if bottlefed and having no bradys or desats they are usuely near ready to come home
my little man came home weighing 6lb 1 he gets weighed today cant wait to see what hes put on as hes been home a week
scbu is a very stressfull place for anyone even if your there for only a few wks i would of been carted off by the men in white coats if we had been there much longer to many bad memories etc

My lo was born at 32+2 and weighed 3lbs9 so very similar to yours. She was in special care for exactly a month, born on the 13th and came home the 13th.She was in an incubator for nearly 2 weeks and getting tube fed,her breathing was fine from birth.Once she reached about 34wks I tried putting her on the boob but she didn't really manage to get a proper latch.I tried several times a day for a few days and got quite disheartened that she wouldn't latch on.And then one day she did all of a sudden. She was still topped up by tube for the next few days. Then started not topping up after bf and checked blood sugar and it was fine. That was a saturday,on monday we started demand feeding during the day( I was already at home by then) I stayed in hospital the thursday night and she came home that Friday.Once she started latching on it all went pretty quickly and she's been home now just over 2 weeks.

Hi i had my twins 4 weeks early and they always tell you that it will probably be close to their due date. However if los respond well and start feeding without tubes etc they will think about letting you home before. We luckily only had to stay in hospital for 7 days so they let us home 3 weeks before their due date but we were told to expect to be out around that date x If u want to chat send me a message. Its hard when ur babies are in scbu luckily my los were only in transitional care so i was allowed to stay with them and not allowed to leave them! x

Kaiya was born at 32+4 and weighed 3lb 12oz. She like your boys didn't need any oxygen and was being fed through a tube, she was in scbu for a week and then with me by my bed for 2 weeks ( had pre-eclampsia so was in hospital on ward with her ) she was allowed home once she was off her hot cot controlling her own temp and was able to have two full bottle or breast feeds in 24hrs as well as tube feeds. Babies get their sucking reflex from around 34 weeks so once she established that she was well underway on her bottles she was home after 20 days. Your boys sound like they are doing well so could be home soon but i would still look at it that they will be home on due date then if they are released early it will be a lovely surprise.

Hello
When Isabella was born we were told to look towards her due date for her coming home or even later but she was born at 28 weeks and came home on home oxygen. She actually came home 10 days after her due date (which was 25th Jan) and it was only just after Christmas that we were told to expect her to come home beginning of March! All babies are different and it sounds like your boys are doing really well so I bet they are home with you before their due date! Also once they start breast/bottle feeding and they get them on demand feeding they are on their way home!! Good luck! x

Hey everyone,
I'm just looking for some advice from other mums of premmie babies. My boys were born at 32+2 weeks and weighed 3lb5 and 3lb8. They didn't need any help breathing and now at 8 days old are both on expressed breast milk through a nasal tube.
I was just wondering how long I can expect them to be in the SCBU. No two nurses can give me the same answer. Some say I can expect it to be 3 weeks, others say 2 months. My partner thinks I should stop asking but I'm so eager to get them home. Does anyone know how long their stay might be or what I can expect?

i had my twins were born at 34+1 weeks weighing 4lb 6oz n 4lb 3oz so a bit bigger than urs, mine needed tube feeding n fattenin up n n treatment 4 jaundice. ds dropped 2 4lb 1oz n dd 2 3lb 14oz n both were 4lb 6oz when they came home at 15 days old. i was expressing 4 mine 2.
