Hi all, I hope that you and all your babies are doing well. Just wanted to ask a quick question, a cousin of mine has had her baby 6 weeks early. Her waters broke at 3pm and she had the baby normaly at 11pm. THe baby did not breath on his own and went blue and had to be put on a ventilator. He is now off the ventilator and breathing on his own, his toes are still blue. The doctors have said there is a possibilty of brain damage. I dont really know much about premature babies as my little one was two weeks late which caused its own different set of problems. Has anyone else had the same thing? THanks for your help.

Hiya
I've got a term baby but who was starved of oxygen at birth and her brain was damaged or injured as they prefer to say at this stage. If at any stage he was starved of oxygen then there is a possibility it will have caused an injury. They will only be able to tell this by doing an mri scan - results take about a week. Obviously the long term outlook depends on where the brain was injured and how severe the injury has been. hth
