Our LO was born at 33wks and only spent 9 days in SCBU but was still really unsettled when it came to sleeping at night. We loaded a mp3 player with lots of chilled mellow music and turned the volume right down low, we popped the headphones through the holes on her moses basket (well out of her reach) and she listened to music for a few nights without us having to suffer it!!!
This worked well for a few nights then we would put it on when she was drifting off and turn it off when we were sure she was asleep, turning the volume down a bit each time, after about a week we stopped using it and she was sleeping fine.
Might not work for you but worth a try!!

My baby has just come home from SCBU too. He had quite a good routine in hospital but the first few days he came home he was feeding every half hour or so and wasn't sleeping either. I figured he was probably feeding more because of thirst inthis weather than hunger and not sleeping because he was used to seeing through he see through cot inthe hospital and the moses basket is more closed in so he had strange smells and noises and he couldn't see that i was near by. He is better now becuase I have got into a feed routine with him where he feeds, gets winded and feeds again before I try to put him down, at tnight I tried sleeping him in his carry cot which has lower sides and during the day I make use of his pram to rock and soothe him to sleep which I hadn't thought to try until my mum suggested it. He has now got back to sleeping. I hope this can give you some ideas to help with your baby. Your baby just might need more comforting and cuddles until he gets used to his new surroundings. best of luck and I totally sympathise with your lack of sleep. It is hard to function normally. Try getting someone to mind him while you have a kip.
Take care

Is the house quiet all the time? This might be unsettling as in hospital its never completely quiet. The change of scenery and sounds might be what he is reacting to.

hi, it could be the weather and the change of scenery that is unsettling him, my ds was the same, just give him lots of cuddles if you can. it does get better.
glad his home and you are both well

Hello,
I had my baby at 32 weeks. He was is SCBU for 4 weeks and came home 2 days ago.
He now weighs 5lbs 3 oz. He isnt getting much sleep. for the last 3 nights he sleeps on and off but not long. the rest of the time he lies awake and occasionally makes crying noises and is uncomfortable. he has a clean nappy and is fed, but doesnt sleep.
Today in the day he slept only 3 hrs after a bath, but very light sleep before that, opening his eyes every few minutes.
Just wanted to know that is this normal or what can i do to help him sleep.. and myself.
thx

Thanks for ur replies girls....
i agree with u and it is taking some time getting use to surrounding. We now use low music at night.
in the day he sleeps fine.....and i catch up with the work.... but he is getting better at night too.... i guess he has the same routine as day but coz we r so tired we think he is taking long....
he is such an angel...... thx once again
