Thanks for your replies. So sounds like I will be referred to a consultant if I become p again.  Still doesn't stop you worrying does it?  As have heard stories of 2nd pregnancy being full term and others that have gone on to have 1 or 2 more premmies.

Good luck with your 2nd p

An incompetent cervix can be found when measuring cervix length throughout the pregnancy. If it shortens early on they can put a stitch in. This does not however stop your waters from going early.

The consultant will probably tell you that it might not happen again, but will keep a close eye on you and will possibly suggest having steroids early on just in case.

In many cases there isnt really a good reason why babies are born early.

Me and my husband are thinking of trying for another baby soon but wanted some advice or hear of any experiences from others.  In my previous p my waters broke at 26 weeks and my son was born at 28 weeks (he is now 19 months and doing really well).  There was no reason why my waters broke early.  Although we did have a tough 9 weeks in SCBU with our son we would do it again if the outcome would be the same.

I've read many stories on this site and my heart goes out to all of you who have lost babies.

And for those who have babies in SCBU - keep strong for them is my advice .

I've read about incompetent cervix etc, how do I know if I have this?  Will I be under a consultant next time if I manage to get pregnant?  Has anyone else experienced something similar.  Would the answer be to have a stitch?  Would the consultant suggest this?  If not, would it be worth getting a second opinion privately?

I'm worried that if I get pregnant again the same thing will happen and might happen earlier next time.  Please help as really don't know what to do.

    Thanks x
