What a lovely story, I am still wiping away the tears. You are proof that miracles do happen and you have certainly given me hope to carry on as I have been feeling really down lately after my first ivf cycle was unsuccessful. Wishing you and Holly lots of happiness after all you have been through, you deserve it.

Thank you so much for sharing you story with us. We don't often hear of people for whom IVF has worked after a couple of negatives so that has given me a real boost and I am sure it will help others keep positive too.

What a special baby you have and she certainly had to fight to come into this world. I hope she now remains healthy and happy and you are now enjoying being parents after such a struggle.

    Jo x

In 2002 I had an ectopic pregnancy and was told that my fallopin tube couldn't be saved, then after a laporoscapy several months later was told that the remaining tube was damaged and that our only hope was IVF treatment.  My husband and I were in a state of shock.  Over time, we got our heads round the idea and made the first appointment to start our treatment, only to be told that I was a little overweight and wouldn't be able to commence treatment until I had shed a few pounds.  Problem was, I am a comfort eater, so the more depressed I became, the more I ate, making it impossible for me to get into the frame of mind I needed to be able to do this.  Finally, I managed to shed 2 and half stone, more than required, and fter my appointment at the clinic, I was told that the rules on maximum weight had be relaxed!  So I could have started the treatment after all.  Still, I am a great believer in whats meant to be.....

We made another appointment to start our first cycle, but a routine scan showed that my remaining fallopian tube was inflammed and full of fluid, I would require an operation to remove this before treatment could commence.  So back to square one again.  I had the op 4 months later then a recovery period of 6 weeks and off to the clinic again.  Had our first cycle in late 2006, produced 6 eggs of which 4 fertilised, but unfortunately I had a negative pregnancy test.  Then at the start of 2007 we had our second cycle, produced 10 eggs of which 7 fertilised, but another negative pregnancy test followed.  Then we had our third cycle shortly after and produced 15 eggs of which 14 fertilised.  Two blastocysts were implanted and hey presto - a positive test.  When we went for our first scan at 5 weeks, we had not one, not tow, not three but FOUR babies!  All with strong heartbeats!  Both embryos had divided which meant I was carrying 2 sets of identical twins - not quads.  The nurse informed me that this had never happened at the hospital, and upon my research no women in this country had given birth to 2 sets of identical twins.  So we were a little worried and somewhat excited.  Unfortunately the following scan 2 weeks later showed that only one baby remained.  Dissapointing but one healthy baby is better than 4 possibly unhealthy babies.

Pregnancy went normally, until my 20 week scan when I was diagnosed with an SUA (Single Umbilical Artery) Not a serious condition for baby but could result in low birth weigh, I had to have regular scans throughout my pregnancy.  I also am Rhesus Negative and baby was due on 29/02/08 - This baby certainly wanted to be different!

After a short 3 hour labour I gave birth the gorgeous Holly on her due date (29/02/0weighing 5lb 8ozs, in the birthing pool.  the cord snapped, then when the placenta finally came out the midwife was horrified to discover that the membranes were growing on the outside (vasa praevia)  I have since researched this and found that if labour is induced and you have this condition, there is a 95% mortality rate, so my little Holly nearly did't make at this late stage.  So you will understand that she really is so, so precious to us and is an actual miracle!
