Hi Gem Gilly

Wishing you all the best for your et tomorrow

Will be thinking of you.

I was told on the ec to have full bladder for today, but when i arrived they said it had to be a empty bladder so luckly i was able to nip to the toilet.
My consultant didnt use an ultrasound as she has been doing it for years.Although i think i would of liked to have been able to see them go in .

Hi Gem
Excellent news so tomorrow is the big day! You need to have a full bladder because they use an ultrasound to see where to put the embryos. Internal scans need empty bladders and external ones need full bladders. Don't know the reasons why so can't help you there!!
For me that is the hardest part of ET having someone messing round with you whilst you are desperate for a pee especially when the nurse holding the ultrasound probe gives your bladder a good push!
for tomorrow I hope it all goes well and plenty of sticky
to keep them with you.

Hi Girls,
Well the clinic have called this afternoon to confirm et will be tomorrow morning at 10.50am. I did ask about the grade of the embryo's but the nurse said they won't be able to confirm until tomorrow. I have to empty my bladder before leaving for the clinic and drink a bottle of water during the journey. I am told that will be sufficient. Does anyone know why my bladder has to be half full?
So thats me then, I just hope now my little embies are sticky!! x x

Hi Gem,
Well done - that's a great fertilisation rate - really pleased for you.
Not sure what the optimum for transfer back is - mine was 2 days (wed to fri) but that may just have been cos of the weekend. I know others have had a 3 day gap. Am sure they'd have said if it was tomorrow tho!
Glad you're feeling less yucky and hopefully you'll be less sore by tomorrow - sleeping sounds like a good plan (and if you can get dh to do the chores in the meantime then all the better!)
Thanks for the info on blastocysts!!
Take care & good luck for et.

Hi Jo,
We are hoping to have 2 put back but haven't been told when yet, we are thinking maybe Friday becasue as you already know they need at least 3 days to mature.
Yes it was with ICSI. Not becasue dh had a particularly low sperm count but just to increase our chances.
I have alittle bit of work to do and then I am hoping to put my feet up. How are you flling today? Have you got the go ahead to start injections? I have my fingers crossed for you.

That is great news Gem. A really good fertilisiation rate for you too. Was it ICSI?
When are you having your ET? How many are you having put back? Q's Q's sorry!
Take it easy today and I hope you are back on your feet soon.

Hello - I have good news. Out of the 5 eggs 3 have fertilised!!
They only injected 4 as one was too young so not bad going at all! I am so pleased. I called my dh at work and he is over the moon! We are both so relieved!

Hi Girls,
Not heard from the clinic yet but not expecting to hear until atleast 11am. I am still feeling sore and I'm bleeding (sorry TMI) but the sick feeling has gone which I think is the worst. My dh has had to go to work today so will be on my own most of the day unless my mum can pop in. I don't mind though I am just going to watch chick flicks all day! I could get used to this lazying around lark! I am not liking the pessaries at all!! I had to use them after IUI and I hated doing them then. Now I have to do one in the morning and one at night. Yuck!
My dh has been so supportive. I slept most of the day yesterday and he cleaned and did 3 hours of ironing! I had to take a picture to believe it!!
I'll let you know how many eggs have fertilised in an hour or so. I am so glad I have you all as I wouldn't know what to do with myself this morning if I didn't have this forum! You girls are right I shouldn't worry about the number it is the quality that counts.
LittleRooReynolds - I copied this from my fertility clinic's website.
A blastocyst is an embryo that has been allowed to develop in the laboratory for five days or more after egg collection. This is in contrast to conventional IVF where embryos are allowed to develop for only two to three days in the laboratory before being transferred into the uterus. Research has shown that an embryo has different needs during various stages of development. In response to these needs, scientific progress has led to the production of innovative sequential culture media, enabling embryos to grow and survive under laboratory conditions to the blastocyst stage.

Hi Gem
I am glad everything went OK for you. As a lot of other people have said don't worry about numbers at this point. Your eggs were good quality and that is the most important thing. I would rather have 5 good quality than 10 poorer quality.
I am sure the clinic will call with good news today. It is a hard few days waiting to hear how they are getting on but you are nearly there now and will soon have them back with you to settle in for 8/9 months.
Take care of yourself

Hope you don't mind me posting in your diary. I just wanted to wish you all the luck in the world for your treatment and to reassure you that its quality not necessarily quantity of eggs that are collected.
This board was my home for quite a few years, and I like to pop on and see how people are doing or offer some advice and support. I had various treatments and two attempts at ICSI and on my second I only had 3 eggs collected and was told that one of them wasn't good enough to be injected so they would only be injecting two. I was so disappointed and convinced that none of them would fertilise. Thankfully one of them did and I had that one little embie transfered two days after EC. Again I was convinced that the treatment wouldn't work as what were the chances of one embryo attaching?! Well what did I know? that one little embryo did attach and I now have a beautiful 6 months old little boy - so I am proof that what the doctor told you is true. After all you only need one.
i really hope and pray that your treatment works and that you go on to be as lucky as I am

Hi Gem,
Really pleased all went smoothly for you today - well done on getting through it! I know it's disappointing when you don't get as many eggs as you hoped for (I was just the same!) but it's the quality that's important. It one takes one good one to stick firm....
Fingers crossed that they all fertilise - do let us know when you hear tomorrow.
I'm sorry you couldn't go the Blastocyst route you wanted - what is that even?! I remember it being a stage in cell division from my biology A level (knew it would come in handy one day!) but don't have a clue what it means in IVF terms.
Anyway, take it easy, rest up loads and all the best for et on Fri.

Hi Ladies,
Thank you all so much for your good luck messages and words of encouragement I am lucky girl to have you all!

Everything went well today. It started a little tense as we got stuck in traffic but we arrived only a few minutes late. I was the first in for ec so there was no hanging about. The consultant was so lovely and gave me a little chat before they took me down. It was such a nice feeling drifting off and then I came round to my dh holding my hand.
In total I had 5 eggs that survived the collection. Initially we were a little disappointed but the consultant said it didn't matter. Some girls have 20 collected and some girls have 1 collected and they still get pregnant so I felt much better after talking to him. I didn't realise but when they went to collect the eggs some of my follicles were empty! Every day is a school day for me at the moment!
We will hopefully hear from the clinic by 1pm tomorrow to let us know how many eggs fertilised. It is really weird knowing I have 5 eggs in a petrie dish somehwere!
I will let you know tomorrow how many of my embies survived. We think we will go back for ET on Friday. Blastocyst is not an option for us now as I didn't have enough eggs.

Thanks again for all your words of encouragement girls.
Love Gem x x

Hi Gem
Just wanted to wish you good luck for your embryo transfer tomorrow.
The nurse who did my scans during the injection stage told me that you need a full bladder for this stage because your bladder sits behind the uterus and if it is fully expanded it pushes the uterus into a more horizontal position to enable the tube (through which the embryos are transferred) to be easily inserted! Though i'm sure different consultants like to do things different ways?
Anyway, i hope all goes well and try and stay nice and relaxed.
