Hi girls dont give up hope!!!!me and dh tried to concieve naturally for 3 1/2 yrs without any success, after a series of tests it turned out that some months i would ovulate and some months i wouldnt, i was prescribed 50mg clomid and was told by doc at the time that it was just 'procedure' and prbably wouldnt help us to concieve, after hearing that i understandably went away quite disheartened. decided to take the tablets anyway cos i had nothing to lose, and got ma bfp at end of first month!!!found out at 12wk scan it was twins and i now have 20month old non id twin girls!!!!!! me and dh have since tried to concieve again- pretty much since they were born, as we guessed it would take just as long. after no luck naturally after 1st yr we went to docs and again was prescribed clomid, after 2nd month we got our bfp- unfortunately this ended in miscarriage, and we have decided to have a break from ttc since, but i truly believe without the use of clomid i would still be searching for ma first bfp!!!
fair enough it may not work for everyone, but it does for some!!!!!!! and even if it only increases ya chances of a bfp by 6 % surely thats worth giving a try???

hi
sorry i'm gate crashing from ttcal, well i saw the news and the paper and thought i would come over as i have seen the clomid club on here.
and well all i basically have to say is if a woman wants a baby and she can't get there on her own she should be given all the help and support she needs, clomid does make a difference and so do all the other treatments,
bet it was a man that did the studies and reports, and i hope you all go on to get your bfp best of luck

JFC - I also can't count the IUI babies either. My next cyberniece is coming along soon and she is an IUI baby

I had to come back on Bounty because I knew you would all have seen the Clomid news. I have just read the report in the British Medical Journal and I can tell you the Sun reporter didn't bother to and probably should have done. Clomid certainly does not reduce the chance of a BFP is the most obvious point.
There is one result they haven't mentioned, in the Sun at least, which I think is really important, and that is that the women taking clomid or having IUI all felt better for actively doing something. Feeling more positive on this horrible journey to our dream has to be worth taking clomid for, we all know that the PMA helps us survive the road to mummyhood.
I have been on this forum for forever and I can't count the clomid babies that have been born while I have been here. I have 2 beautiful cyber nieces infact. Don't read rubbish press reports and let them ruin your positivity. You will all get your BFPs.
And to help you along

lots of luck to the clomid club xxx

Thank you, I do (as I'm sure all the others do) appreciate hearing of success stories regardless of how conception occurred. I know it can happen, I just wish I knew for sure that it WILL happen, lol! After almost 3 & 1/2 yrs of ttc#1 it does become difficult to have faith, but then you already know that yourself. Maybe our holiday (1st one since our honeymoon 3 & 1/2 yrs ago!) will be just the trick!

I know what you mean, but my original point was that it can happen to us ladies naturally, without treatment, even when we think there's no hope. I was on this board for four years and seen so many ladies come and go, who were on waiting lists for fertility treatments and a lot of them conceived naturally because whilst they were on that wait, it took the pressure off and it just happened. Of course there are some ladies that will definitely need IVF etc, my friend had seven IVF attempts and has just had a baby boy at aged 40, and my sister went through menopause at 32, unfortunately self-inflicted from being anorexic all her life, she came off pill at 36 because she hadn't had a period for ten years and didn't see the point, and fell pregnant two weeks later, nobody give up hope because it CAN happen, with or without treatment.

Georgiasmum, I'm glad you posted again because I was a little shocked and disheartened by your 1st post. I understand you;ve been through it all etc, but it really doesn't help thsoe of us who are in the "unexplained infertility" boat to hear stuff like this. I have relaxed, it didn't work. I now can't relax as I have a maternal family history of early menopause (ages 28,32-34,38,39), and being 31 now I'm understandably anxious! How the hell do you relax when you have that hanging over your head?!

Catwoman - Sorry I've just read my post back and it does sound negative, I didn't mean it to be, I think when it comes to fertility it's down to our bodies and whether it decides if it wants to bloody work from one month to the next! I had my daughter really easily, then no pregnancy for three years, then I was diagnosed with unexplained infertility, DH had low sperm count, we tried clomid, then two cycles of IVF/ICSI and still no pregnancy, the doctor told us we'd never conceive naturally and then we had three natural pregnancies in four months, so what I meant was IT CAN HAPPEN without fertility treatment so we shouldn't rely on it. Everyone used to tell me when I was TTC to relax and forget about it and it will happen, and I used to want to slap them, but it's true, as soon as I gave up all hope of having another baby and deciding that I wouldn't put myself through anymore treatment, it happened. And no matter what any article or research says, us women will still put ourselves through everything possible in the hope we get the baby we want so much. XXX

it make me so angry, sad and all other words like that, that we dont even now get the support from the profs that are just there to help me/us all! it might not have worked last cycle but i was hopful that it would work one cycle soon. my feeling of +ve vibes have been dashed again!
whats a girl to do?

to all on clomid!8/8/08 14:37
aswell as feeling p***ed off anyway reg the whole ttc lark(is really getting me down)-i reach for my clomid this morn-switch on the telly and bloody hell i almost choked on my clomid, lol.
as previous post said for ladies like myself with pcos and not ovulating reg on my own, clomid obviously helps with this.i concieved my almost 3 yr old little boy on clomid and was hoping it would work again-only this time i seem to be getting nowhere.i personally think ladies with fert issues will try anything the consultant suggests,in most cases clomid first-and there are plenty of ladies with happy clomid babies.
a friend of mine(jane i mean you if you read this, lol),didnt have any fert issues apart from the fact she wasnt getting pregnant(she did ov without clomid but they put her on it anyway and low and behold she got preg, gave birth to her new son 2 weeks ago.
the point is ladies this crap is hard enough without silly stories by some idiot who thinks he knows best-i for 1 will continue to pop the pills in the hope i do get my babyxxsam
good luck to every1xx

Oh great now I do feel depressed

I'm gatecrashing from DIO because I wondered if you'd seen the news, but we had clomid and then we were referred to ICSI and we saw a fertility specialist from America who was an expert in IVF/ICSI and immunology and he told us that clomid and IUI was a complete waste of time and money and wouldn't recommend either. We went on to have two ICSI cycles which both failed and then we went on to have three natural pregnancies in four months, unfortunately one was ectopic and one was a miscarriage but I am now six months pregnant with a baby boy, so it says alot for all fertility treatments because none worked for us and we've ended up with a natural conception. I'm not saying they're not going to work for everyone, because many are successful, but if I needed fertility treatment in the future I wouldn't pin my hopes on it.

Oh pants, the Bounty caps thief stole my caps again!

8/8/08 14:05
i'll tell you what p***ed me off the most was this:
(referring to the success rates of 17% natural, 14% clomid & 23% ai)
"the differences were small enough to be meaningless" said prof siladitya bhattacharya. meaningless to who?!!! not meaningless to the 6% more women who conceived using ai!
8/8/08 14:02
Yup, but as I'm one of the "unexplained infertility" people, I find this report to be quite harsh. I ovulate, multiple tests have shown that. But Barts prefer to do stimulated IUI so that's what I'm doing. The study tells us that 17% of the 580 women had no treatment and went on to give birth compared with 23% who had "artificial insemination", so IUI then. So they're efectively saying that the improvement rate for IUI vs natural is as little as 6%! Wow! So I've spent the last 4 months wasting my time on IUI! Oh well, about to start the final attempt anyway, lol!
Perhaps if they offiered post-coital testing and immune testing they'd find less of us are "unexplained" after all! But hey, why waste time/money doing that when they can throw drugs at us and if that fails tough!?! Why do they do such tests in the US and why does the UK not do those tests?! I just don't get it!
8/8/08 13:41
It's on the news too. Looks frightening but you need to be careful when reading stuff like this. The study (according to the Sun!) was carried out on women with unexplained fertility - not pcos, ovarian failure etc - these woman were probably ovulating on their own then took clomid as they were not falling pregnant on their own even though they were ovulating so how is taking clomid to help with ovulation any different to ovulating on your own?? - the problem is still there - even though you are ovulating you aren't getting pregnant. Clomid helps you ovulate that is true in 80% cases.

I know! I had to laugh! I had just picked up my Clomid 5 mins before at Barts and was on the train, opened up Metro and WHAM! Headline read "Fertility aids a waste of cash"! Read the article and I just thought thanks a f**king bunch!
