Good luck in Madrid. We went to Marbella and were really impressed with the whole set up and the generosiry of Spanish ladies! I will keep my fingers crossed for you.

We have been trying for 3 years now with no luck. We have had 3 cycles of IUI (dw is too old for IVF) which have all failed, so we have just started the egg donation process. We are due to go out to Spain (Madrid) for initial consultation and for me to donate sperm. Hope it all goes as well as yours.

Thank you for sharing your story. I'm sorry you've had such an emotional rollercoaster of a ride and I'm sorry to hear of your loss, but it is very good to hear that you are now pregnant with twins. Congratulations and I hope you keep in touch and let us know how you are getting on.

    Hi All

I have been reading with interest all your postings on IVF and I thought I would add a new thread! I wasn't sure where to put my story - older mums - I'm 42, first time mum, fertility - Ive had 4 failed IVFs - I fit into all of them!!

We started trying for a baby 8 years ago an after 2 failed IVFs I was referred to the Genetics team at Guys hospital. It took them a year to discover that I have a "balanced translocation" which is a chromosomal problem and most of my eggs are genetically defective. We had IVF no 3 and before they fertilised the embryos they made checked them to see if any were OK. Luckily 2 seemed fine but I lost them very quickly. Determined not to give up we tried again the next year but this time veryone of the embryos was defective. At this point we decided that we needed another option.

A friend of my family has had egg donations with both of her boys so we made emquiries at a clinic in Spain. To cut a long story short we went last year and I got to 20 weeks pregnant when I sadly lost my baby boy - devastating. We went back to Spain in June and I am now 17 weeks pregnant with twins. It hasn't been plain sailing and I have been signed off work for 4 weeks and I suspect that I won't be going back.

To anyone who has been down the multiple IVF route I would say to you that egg donation is a good option with a great success rate. Never once have I felt that these babies aren't mine - they are completely and utterly mine. At 42 this is the last time we will try so I am really hoping that this time our dream comes true
