well i had my scan today and saw consultant for the last time hopefully lol.

all was fine baby is estimated to be 7lb5oz at the moment +/- 550g so basically can be anywhere between 6.5lb and 8.5lb at the moment ....hmm nice and acurate there might as well go the whole hog and inform me that i will be having a baby some time this year lol

couldnt see a damn thing head was well down so much she had to measure it twice legs and body measuring two weeks bigger than dates but head normal same as on my midterm scan so like my last one i think will be another long baby. and baby is facing my back at the moment so isnt back to back like my others i did ask what the chances are of baby coming out and turning b2b now and he said very unlikely because of how far engaged the head is.

they mainly wanted to check my fluid levels as was measuring big by 5 weeks then by 3 weeks the other day i noticed my bump was a lot smaller than it had been and today i was measuring 37 weeks exactly so spot on really and fluid levels are normal.

so they think the high water levels have either sorted themselves out or i have been leaking but as i know i havent been leaking its more likely the first.

all is clear for my homebirth only problem was my bp was high which wasnt suprising as they took it literally as i walked in through the door and called me for my scan at the same time so i was kinda flushed. but they took it again later and it was still high so got the cmw coming out to me tommorow to check it in my own environment fingers crossed it has gone back down but it wasnt particuarly high anyway was only 130/90 which is still normal range but high for me as i am usually 110/70.

good thing is i dont have to go back just been told to get checked out if i get labour pains which i think is a bit of a waste of a journey as its always either a false alarm or the real thing and either way i would just be told to go home and wait for things to happen. he asked if i was getting any pains/tightenings which i am and have been for weeks but they would just be classed as braxton hicks as not regular or strong enough and i got monitored with my 3rd child for the same pains and was told they were nothing and they got me to 4cm dilated after a couple of weeks so a fat lot of use their monitoring was then lol.

anyway i reassured them i would transfer to hospital or be checked out at the first sign of anything so they are happy for me to be passed over to the homebirth team yay!.

cant believe i am not here ranting because they were being a***s makes a change to be supported in having another hb is the total opposite to last year.

happy 1st sept ladies hasnt it come around fast!!!

im not due till 25th had a few niggles but nothing exciting not that i want baby here yet really need to get the kids back to school before even thinking about it lol eldest is back on thursday this week and no.2&3 are back next monday no.3 starts reception so really want to be around to see her off that first week.

i have my scan in the morning to check water levels as was measuring big my bump seems to have gone down a bit though baby is very active so i think if there was too much water in there i think it has corrected itself.

my mw is coming out to me on friday and also the homebirth supervisor/head of midwifery at the hospital is coming out on the same day to do the homebirth visit and hopefully arrange my hb box. i will be 37+1wks then so will seem very real indeed.

    have a great month ladies.

I know what you mean hun, my MIL and FIL are coming down from the 12th and are 'hanging around until i decide to give birth' apparently, I'm not due until the 20th!

They are not staying with us, but i  dont want them here every 5 minutes, i go very home bound and want my home to myself when leading up to delivery.

Fil does nothing but wind me and my children up, he ignores  my 7 year old and dotes on my 2 year old so i end up getting really wound up and protective of the older child, and MIL smokes like a trooper, outside of course, but she comes in stinking, yuck!!!

Does your MIL have to stay with you? Can you give her some special job of taking you other child to the park each day for a bit, so you have some time on your own? Hope you are enjoying the soak in your pool, and rant away, thats why we are here!!!

    Hi Mara!

There does seem to have been a lull recently.  Hopefully, we will hear of some new arrivals soon!  We can only afford for Oz to take one weeks paternity leave at the moment because second week is only statutory pay.  We may take it later on (within the time limit, of course) but it just depends how we are doing financially, which sucks really!

I think if mother in law had actually asked us when it was convenient to come over it would have helped.  We just don't seem to have any say in the matter, whether we agree with the dates or not.  For me, I would have appreciated her help and company the week after Oz goes back to work, as baby will only be a week old.  Oz doesn't seem to care either way, which makes me think I'm being a biatch.  I know if it was my mum it wouldn't matter, but it just does matter to me this way round.  Going to ask mw if she will do a sweep earlier than 41 weeks so that may be the baby will have arrived before she gets here.  God, I said rant over last time.  Can't believe its bothering me so much.

Am going to get back in the pool to chill me out!  Catch up with you all soon.

i have only ever used a pool once and that was in hospital and the water was freezing for me lol. maybe get a thermometer in there to double check it incase the pool is faulty?

regarding the mil being around well mine is the last person i would want around me at this time let alone labour so i dont think you are being selfish or funny at all lol.

how come your partner only has one weeks pat leave i though they were legally allowed two? or is it just through personal choice?

not long for you now is it linz its getting exciting now doesnt seem to have been many due for a few weeks now there are a few of us coming up to popping.

    Hi Girls!

Am all excited today, as my birthing pool arrived and is now set up in the dining room.  We opted for the expensive one the midwive was preferring as it can be set up ready for a week before needing the water to be changed.  So have been in it already easing the backache!  It is like a really hot bath.  My son got in with me and his skin went a little pink, bless him so have turned the temperature down until d-day.  Out of interest, if it made his skin go pink, will it be too hot for baby?  It was at the temperature recommended for delivery -37 degrees.

Was up awake during the night because it dawned on me that mother in law is planning to fly over on 20th Sept. for a week, and I might not have had baby then (will be 12 days over).  Is it really selfish of me to not want her around?  Don't even want my mum around, she is just going to come to collect our son when I go into labour and take him out.  Also don't want to put my mums nose out of joint because all the way along it she has been on standby for looking after son, and if mother in law is here, it won't be necessary.  Also, dh only has one week of paternity leave, and I want us to enjoy getting to know our family of 4 without her around.  I know she is only meaning to be caring etc, but I need my space and it is really intense when she is here, because she doesn't get to see our son very often, and this is her grandchild, not just my child.  Sorry, rant over.  I've gone from being very excited to very moany!  Hormones or manic depression - thoughts please lol!

Welcome Liz, labour vibes to you as you must be getting close!  Labour vibes to anyone else who needs them.  Kisses to all the new babies.

    hi Liz and welcome.

Chas what fab news cant wait to hear your midwifes reaction to how supportive your consultant was lol.

Linz i have never heard of them asking for something like that before sounds a bit extreme and costly not to mention a waste really  we dont all have old mattresses lying around steptoe styleee lmao i agree with maybe a couple of old duvets or maybe a garden lounger seat cover ? again not the sort of thing people have lying around spare or clean particularly.

plenty of women have managed without those things in the past including those with pools so i wouldnt worry about it too much just get something you are comfortable using i know with my hb i was fine and comfy on my knees but the mw insisted on shoving one of my cushions under my knees for comfort which got ruined in the end lol. i mean i was at the height of labour getting painful contractions i was not worried about getting sore knees (i mean carpet burns never bothered me when ttc why should they now )

Wow, talk about expensive demands from your MWs lins!!

How about a couple of old duvets or something doubled up? If my MW asked me to get a pool with all those, I'll be asking her if she's paying for it. xXx

Hi all,  sorry haven't posted for a while as have had the in-laws over from Jersey!  We saw the mw again on Wednesday and bump has disengaged! On the upside, it meant my measurements were back into the normal range - measuring 36 at 37 weeks.  Blood pressure was back to normal too, so mw gave me the all clear for ordering birthing pool and went through my home birth pack - woohoo!  Community mw's are also now on call from today should I go into labour as well.

Just trying to get the pool now, mw here are very keen that I have a fixed pool that has built in temperature regulator and filter.   They are not keen on birth pool in box type one (which a kind friend has given me, with new liner so can't use).  Has anyone else experienced this?  The one we can hire with temperature gauge and filter costs £300, which is a lot of money.

Mw also suggested having old mattress next to birth pool in case they need me to get out for any reason.  We don't have one, any suggestions?

Labour vibes to all those who are close.  Love to all the new babies and mummies out there.  Hope you are all well and enjoying your new arrivals.

Hi girls, its been a while! We moved recently and I got the net back up

Mara, some good news I saw the MW last Monday (18th) and she was still holding back on the whole HB front with me - another excuse, my iron levels ... I told her to take my blood to check the iron count -  until I saw the OB (21st). And the OB could not understand why I had to see her. I told her my MWs worries about baby being too big, then me being too fat and then her worries on my iron levels. ANYWAY... the OB has written all over my notes "baby palpated fine, iron levels are 11.5 and there are no worries why Charlotte can't have a home birth"... OH YEAH!!!

So my MW is ringing me today to see what the OB has said and I look forward to telling her everything is absolutely fine and that she can pull her finger out (finally) and get things sorted. I didn't mince my words with the OB, either. "Why are you here? I don't understand..." "I WANT A HOME BIRTH!! And my bloody midwife, lovely as she is, is always coming up with excuses. I'm having this home birth!"

Look forward to getting the pool ordered and delivered! I have 10 days left till my due date and I'm starting to get niggles, etc. Bring it on

mw was a very good appointment i asked her if they would kick up a fuss if i did have too much water in there (even though i think i did with all of my others especially my last and it didnt bother them) and she said unless its an extreme amount of excess which it isnt because i am nowhere near the size i was with my last one they cant say anything. she explained that the only thing they would say was upped risk of cord prolapse but if babies head is engaged which it is although only 3/5ths its enough they cant say anything.

she also said if they did have a moan she would still push for me to have a hb and would be more than happy if i stayed at home regardless ...yay.

had a student mw in there who was great she was really pleased to get someone who was up for doing the natural thing as most of the women she sees ask to be in hospital and demand epidurals on the door and in her own words she is a bit of a hippy like me lol. she felt my tummy and got babies body parts straight away whereas my last visit i had a stand in mw who had been in the job 20 years and she couldnt find them even when i told her where baby was lol.

my nearly 5 year old dd came with me and they got her to help do my bp and feel my tummy and she got to put the doppler on my tummy to listen to baby she was well chuffed lol she even watched whilst the student mw took some bloods for my iron levels and she hates needles i was really proud of her.

i will let you know how i get on with the scan.

so how are all your lovely bundles of joy? getting used to them being there yet?
