Congratulations. It doesn't matter that your homebirth wasn't complete. As lng as it was a positive expericence for you thats all that matters. I had my dd at hosp after planned hb as she was14 days over but it was wonderful.

well done Marchy and it sounds like you coped really well under the circumstances. To be in the comfort of your home to being blue lighted to hossie is quite traumatic and can hinder labour - so you did really well. Funny about the wrong sex part - everyone has a funny story! congratulations on Heather!

aww congrats. It's good to read about where a transfer is necessary and what exactly happens.  They're certainly on the ball which is reassuring.  Sorry you didn't get your homebirth though.

    Hi,

Congratulations and well done you. It is unfortunate that the cmw didn't pick up on the full bladder causing the delay. I would think that cmws ought to be able to put in a catheter at home (any mws out there who can enlighten us?)

A positive birth story by all accounts and great news that you are home so soon and baby is feeding well.

Hi marchymum,  welcome Heather, at least you had a long time at home first. I think that the mw's could've found out about the bladder and saved all of that. then again i didn't realise that hb mw's actually changed over so often if at all.  At least you didn't get too much interference in hospital.  Isn't that a perfect example as to how labour can be held up by anxiety, like you said mw started packing her bags and the ambulance was called. ayou couldv'e stayed there and peeed in the pool hey.

better get on with it again and have your Hamish next lol.

Still can't quite believ Heather belongs to me...the real owner is going to come at the end of the week and take her back!

Well labour for me started at 1 in the morning...3 hours after going to bed so a bit of a lack of sleep.  I stayed put and tried to sleep but gave up at around 3, contractions were coming around every 3-4 minutesso no slow build up for me. I put my Tens on and just pottered. Woke up DH at around 5.30 and he started to fill the pool so it was ready.  I rang the labour ward at around 6 to let them know and they said ring back when you can't talk any more!  Well that took a couple of hours and when the CMW rang back she said she would pop round but if I wantedto get in the pool go for it, I could always get back out.

Amazing, instant relief, the contractions were still there but there was nothing between them as I could completely relax.  MW showed up around 9.30 and I was 3cm.  She said carry on doing well and someone will be back around lunch.  Different MW, Alison turned up then who was amazing really supportive but just faded into the background if not needed. I got out of the pool for a bit and was 5cm so getting there!  Unfortunately Alison had to leave at 5...boo...she actually hung around until gone 6!  By then I had got to 8/9cm andhad started to want to push.  Well carried on in the pool with 2 new  MW but by 7 hadn't really got much furhter and they were getting concerned.  The decison to transfer got made   and the ambulance got called. Things went a bit wrong at that point. I paniced a bit so stopped coping as did DH who had been doing an amazing job up until then.  And at this point the 2 MW wandered off to tidy up their things!  Well got a bag together and some clothes on (all though I later found DH had missed some essentials..like trousers to come home in!).  Got rushed in with the lights going which was a new experience!.

MW at the hospital was great they drained my bladder which was holding things up (why the CMW couldn't have done this I don't know)  Pushing took acouple of hours but still with just gas and air and towards the end without that.  She arrived at 22.55 shortly before the doctors were going to come in and 'assess'.  Unfortunately I required some stiches but not to bad.

Funnist bit was that Heather was actually HAmish for 45 miuntes, between DH and 2nd MW they managed to get that one wrong!  By the time we got another look both sets of grandparents had been told...whoops never going to live that one down!

The ward wasn't too bad although home would have been better but we were only in until 2 the next day so not bad.

Shes doing well and getting the hang of feeding, just need to give DH a lesson in which way round a nappy goes on!

Will definately be going for a HB again it was a great expereince even if I didn't quite make it at the end
