    OOOh Lily,

My waters started leaking at 5.30 pm and have been every since and the mw has been out twice. Once to monitor then she went to the hospital to get a tens machine and dropped it off. She monitored again and then went home.  I'm now sitting up on the computer lol.

So my hb experience has started, see my post with that title. I can't believe it and i hope i stay here until i meet my baby. The mw tonight is lovely.

i'll be back on soon xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

    Hi,

Good for you for sticking to your guns. Good luck with your homebirth plans. And remember, when it comes to your body you are the expert  and it makes good sense to follow your instincts.

Hi i totally agree with michael odent,

I have had a stressful time since the minute they diagnosed me with GD, the mw said oh you probably had it in your other pg's cos your first was 9lbs 4 oz.

I was then told no hb and sent to the hospital where i heard horror stories about shoulder dystocia, handicapped baby and death of baby. Induction for large baby.

I've had to stay strong and demand a hb and was told so you want to risk the death of your baby do you!

If i was anyone else, maybe younger or never had kids i would have agreed to a hospital birth and i would be a medically managed case. they monitor you the whole time in labour in hospital well you know that could lead to induction, distress and downward spiral.

Well they told me all the risks even before they applied to me.  I monitored my sugar levels and had growth scans all were ok. within average range, so then they were saying oh you are doing perfectly. The obs still said hosp birth tho and doesnt agree wtih me. The ob wants to see me 1 day after my due date to talk induction. I've changed it to a week later (next friday) when i will be a week late but it will be my LMP date. So i don't know whether or not to go if i havent had baby by then cos i dont think i could deal with the pressure then.  I am due this thursday.

I hope i have a good hb and then i will know i did the right thing cos obvioulsy i don't want to harm baby.

So i'm saying in my case Michael Odent is spot on with his view.

I have been stressed and had to get the hypnobirthers round my house to sort me out so i could deal with the 'professionals'

    thanks for the links

It would also seem that at one point, they changed the normal levels at which GD can be diagnosed, so for one group of women where pregnant at the tme, one day they weren't classed as having GD and the next day they suddeenly were, not because their blood levels changed but because the normal ranges changed.

I am all for making advances in science but sometimes I am totally baffled.

    Hi,

Yup - that's the one. He seems to believe that gd is non-event in pg and that dr's shouldn't wind women up unecesarily with risks that are extremely low.

    Hi Lily,

Don't worry about it. i found a page on that site written by michael odent so it was probably the one you meant anyway. I can't imagine there would be more than one page aobut GD by him. It was interesting what he had to say especially aobut not messing with the emotional state of the pg woman and that she doesn't need to know aobut future diabetes risk at that time etiher. Does that sound like the article?

    Thanks for the info xxxxxxxxx

    Hi,

I found that when I copied and pasted  the link the 'l' at the end of '.html' was missing. Adding it in the address bar did the trick.

    Morning,

Lilee i'm having a problem finding the dr odent article, i think i found it but t was from searching that website not directly from that link cos it said there wasn't that page.

Thanks Finkleworth for that, i get so cross when i read that these studies were flawed. when i think aobut the emotional upheaval and fight i have had in this pg to stick to a hb i get really mad. If i wan't strong enough with them i could end up with a hospital experience again cos of scaremongering on their part based on flawed research. I feel so sorry for other women when they totally listen to these health care professionals and they miss a wonderful birth experience. its not every day you have a baby is it.

    thanks again xxx

    Hi,

I got this link from the HomebirthUK Yahoo group and thought I'd share. Ellen - I thought you might be particularly interested. It seems that gestational diabetes isn't the problem our caregivers (I use the term loosely) would have us believe.
