my bmi is high 30+ and i had a CS with dd due to breech pos, saw midwife yesterday and she is all for me having a HB as long as i dont develope gestational diabetes or aneamia

stick to your guns, if you want a HB your entitled to. many people may be funny about it but its your body and your baby.

    hope it all goes well

Thanks for your responses, I'm sticking to my guns and they're not changing my mind. I'm 5-10mins away from a hosp in an ambulance anyway.

I just couldn't believe an overweight MW was trying to lecture me on my weight and how "if you were under 30 everything would be fine.. I'll put you down as a possible HB but i will have to speak to the consultant"

Well, screw them. The only reservations I had were with my DP. But he's all for it so i know i have his support xXx

yeah this is my 4th baby and the first time my bmi has been mentioned and i've weighed the same for all of them no probs in labour

there is no reason why you shouldn't be able to

p.s my bmi is 41 and anything under 35 here isn't even given a second glance over 35 and you have to have blood test for GD and see anithisit before labour just in case

but sounds like they are makng a mountian out of a mole hill

your midwife is full of poop hun you can have a hb under any circumstances only difference having a high bmi makes is that you have to go under consultant care and they can be funny towards hb as they have no experience in them.

i have a high bmi much higher than yours and i have had 4 very easy straight forward births including one hb it has only been this last two years that this panic over mums with high bmi has come into play. they sday because mums with large tummies sometimes have trouble with their uterine muscles so they dont get very good contractions its mad and tries to make it all very black and white whereas we know you can be big but still be proportioned well i dont have a very big tum but my ass is huge lol. they should go back to treating people as individuals not a statistic.

stick to your guns hun your midwife is making excuses and a very poor one at that.

    I didnChasandChris

Ok, so, I was living in Bolton up until the 30th June when we all moved to Cornwall. i mentioned HB to my last midwife (in Bolton) and she seemed very happy for it all to go ahead (this was before we knew we were moving).

i had my MW appointment today with new MW and she's told me I might not be able to have a HB because my BMI is 34. I asked her repeatedly what the dangers were, etc and all she could say was, 'every labour could have complications, we all know that.. anyway... about your bloods' etc. She just couldn't tell me what the hell was wrong but just that ''I'll have to check with the consultant, he'll know''

I'm having this HB, unless there is a direct threat to my baby. I've looked online and still can't find any info except, there could be complications. But as I said, every labour could have complications. I delivered DS absolutely fine, very medical birth as I was induced. I've already had my GTT test and I'm all fine on that front. DS was 7lbs 12oz even though they swore he was over 9 1/2lbs...

Sorry to rant, hope you made it this far! Any advice? xXx
