wow thats amazing, thanks for putting a dads view on there I think there are a lot of women out there shoving their computers under hubby's nose! You did a really fab job, and pmsl at you having a poo whilst your wife needed to push.. I can see my hubby doing that! My hubby is sooo useless, at my induction with dd, he fell asleep on the floor for about 6 hours.. then puked when midwife showed him her head crowning.

Also i don't know why bounty keeps adding the first line to the post. Just ignore that bit it starts from ' helping off the loo......

***>there you are, apologies i don't know how to work this posting --gerry, this is my version and kim promises to put hers on later, i hope this helps any hesitant home prospective home birth dads. gerry.....................................
helping her off the loo and opening the bathroom door kim went down on all fours and things began to happen. still trying to keep slight pressure to hold things up, hoping the midwife would be here any second, there came a point where baby was coming whether we were ready or not! our birthing plan was heading right out the window –candles, music, perhaps in the bedroom, which we had prepared. it was obvious we wern’t going to get any further than the bathroom floor!.
***> ***>kim was rock solid and did not utter a sound. there was total silence except the words ‘don’t move ‘ i can feel everything’ i didn’t move, but stayed there exactly in the same position as kim pushed from within her and our daughters head appeared. she was blue, and i was worried that oxygen was not getting to her. but gut feeling told me that all was well. i said to kim that she should now push some more to get the shoulders out. which they did. after all the talk of shoulder dystocia i was relieved when they came through, kim asked me to help pull her out, but i was worried as to any damage i could potentially cause to her hips, so i just supported her and kim did the rest. that wonderful, magical moment had arrived with my darling daughter in my hands and making her first cry. i passed her between dp’s legs to her mum . kim was able to stand and walk to the bed where she was when the midwife arrived (a different one) ‘sorry, i got lost!!’***> ***>i feel the luckiest man alive. the only thing i would do differently is to talk to kim telling her what was happening. i was so worried and concentrating on what i was doing, i forgot this important bit! although i did say hello to tiana when her head emerged!***> ***>to think if we had not stood up to the intended medicalisation by the obstracian of our birth due to gestational diabetes we would have missed this incredible experience.***> ***> ***>3/8/08 13:50

***>hi i am kim's (aka ellencf) dp she has been a little bit busy since the arrival of our dd and still hasn;t got her birth story up together so here's mine it is a bit long winded, but a must read for any hesitant hb hubbies
tania ella may born 9.55 am 8lbs13oz 9th july 08
you know how it is, a very busy time at work, with a slack time looming in a week or so, still, dp’s doing well, and although i want her to have the baby soon because i don’t like the pain and discomfort she is going through. i don’t mind the extra workload – she can’t do the things she did a couple of months ago and it’s no trouble.
***> ***>notwithstanding that, i am glad of the time to get done what i have to do at work.***> ***>on top of that, she got a piano from www.freecycle.org and wanted yours truly to go and get it.***> ***>ok, so organise help, hire a van and get on with it, except that about ten miles from home the van broke down, a problem but can be sorted out with a couple of phone calls and an hour or so delay, except that dp wanted me straight home immediately as her waters had broken. here we go! rushed home waited night and day and nothing happened! and i took a day off work especially! next night, was very disturbed little or no sleep for either of us. with contractions every twenty minutes she would wake me up (no problem, we’re in this together) not to help with the pain, but to write down the time s of the contractions! this went on all night till about 5am when they got intense. i put on the music, it was gong to be the hypnobirthing tapes, but 3 days previous she had decided that she wanted north american indian chant music. it was a good choice i felt, something haunting spiritual and special, so i made a playlist on youtube and put it on. at about 5.45 the call went out to the midwife – the contractions were every ten minutes and strong. she came out and as soon as she set foot in the house, the contractions slowed to 35mins. kim said that the midwife was an excellent pain relief!***> ***>at 8.15 the mw left with instructions to call when contractions were 7 mins, regular and predictable, and that i should cook breakfast. which i did, but the contractions then came again, 15 mins 12mins 10mins, 8 mins 5mins 5mins 8mins call to the midwife, and head to the shower for pain relief. i poured the bath and she got in and i took advantage of the change of environment for her, with the hot water, shower ect to pop to the downstairs loo for my morning constitutional. – as i sat and pushed i passed a wincing thought for what dp was about to go through. to the call ‘come quickly’ –twice and urgent – i whipped my strides back up, had the presence of mind to unlock the front door and raced upstairs. kim said she wanted to go to the loo. i helped her out of the bath onto the loo with the standard quip ‘make sure it’s not the baby!’ she replied i think it is!***> ***>i put my hand between her legs and felt the crown –i kept my hand on the crown to try to slow things down***> ***>helping her off the loo and opening the bathroom door kim went down on all fours and things began to happen. still trying to keep slight pressure to hold things up, hoping the midwife would be here any second, there came a point where baby was coming whether we were ready or not! our birthing plan was heading right out the window –candles, music, perhaps in the bedroom, which we had prepared. it was obvious we wern’t going to get any further than the bathroom floor!.***> ***>kim was rock solid and did not utter a sound. there was total silence except the words ‘don’t move ‘ i can feel everything’ i didn’t move, but stayed there exactly in the same position as kim pushed from within her and our daughters head appeared. she was b
