Aah I'm so glad you got ur hb hun! Sounded like it went better than you could ever have hoped for, not many daddies can say they delivered their baby!! It really shows just how unnecessarily difficult the nhs make births & sadly my friend discovered this on Friday!
Anywho welcome to the world Tiana

Aw thanks for your comments, i'm so glad it worked out how it did. I know it could have been so different had the hospital got there hands on me and monitored for the whole time.
I had written a birth plan but it didn't make any difference cos the mw that arrived hadn't read it. She came in saying about removing the placenta. my DP had to put her straight that it was going to be natural.
When i had my first in hospital they just jabbed me too and i had no idea what they were doing. I think this is abuse cos they are giving you an injection that you have not agreed to. It's not life threatening so they need to ask for your consent. They do it to make their life easier. Our bodies dont need it. It took me an hour an a half for it to come out but that was cos i was sat on the bed and i didn't want to push any more. When i went out to the loo and pushed it came out easily.
Years ago women didn't need any injedctions to have babies or their placenta's nothing has changed about that, just modern technology.

Another amazing birth story, thank you for sharing with us!
My DP delivered our second baby as i was in labour just 10 minutes and he was very hands on with the subsequent births aswell, i think it really makes them part of the whole experience.
Congratulations to you both and welcome to the world (not so) little one!

Thank you for sharing your lovely homebirth story - your DH did an amazing job - I'm sure Mara is right and natural instinct takes over.
Conratulations, Sarah x

Thanks mara,
I really did have to struggle for a hb but it paid off. No i'm not a marathon runner but may start training. Of course it wasn't painful all the time, only the last 3 or 4 hours, it was tiring cos i din't sleep much. Your DP/DH would have loved delivering baby like you say if he had to he would. My Dp has posted his version on homebirth titled Ellencf, HB, a dads experience, have a read. I hope your hb goes really well, i'm sure it will, and that for your DPs sake that the mw's arrive on time, xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

my dh really panicked at my hb as i started to push before the mw/ambulance got there he was rather relieved when he heard voices from downstairs lol. like i told him though he only panicked because he didnt have to do it if it was a case of he had no choice and baby was actually on its way at that point natural instinct would have kicked in.
3/8/08 21:05
what a fantastic birth story huge congrats Ellen. i especially love the bit where your dh was on the toilet pushing at the same time as you....if only it were as easy eh lol.
i hope my hb goes as well although 40 odd hours not keen on well bloomin done you sure your not a marathon runnner? lol
3/8/08 19:39
Thanks jen, these babies are so quiet and less demanding when in the womb i've discovered.
Sam i hope your DH gets to deliver his baby, he will love it. It can be difficult to keep the faith in yourself when others tell you different i've found. Is your DH okay with it cos i know that some men panic at the thought.

Hi, i'm sorry how this has been pasted on here. It looks like its ok and then when its posted i find its cut the bits of the end. here is the bit that goes after the second post i think and before the one where it says i stood up and walked to the bedroom..............its the acutal birth bit. I hope you can figure out the order now. sorry if its messy.........................................
‘watch its not a baby you have there’. I replied ‘it is’. He put his hand between my legs and felt the babies head of hair just crowning. I couldn’t stand over the toilet so I went down on all fours on the bathroom floor. Gerry sat on the toilet, I pushed again and remained very still. I had no pain relief at all as I had taken off the tens machine to get into the bath earlier.
> >Gerry had his hand over the babies head to make sure she emerged slowly. He moved his fingers and I told him to just stay still as I felt everything. I pushed again and then I heard Gerry say hello to our little girl. I knew then her head must be out. Then a little further wait and another push and her body came out. I felt it very differently to the head coming out (of course it’s a different shape). Then I was still, in shock probably. I heard a cry, it was a surprise as I wasn’t prepared. Gerry said he was worried when her head came out cos she was blue (but this is the normal colour) so he was so relieved when she made a little cry. He passed her through my legs, I grabbed her and thought how heavy and slippery she was. (We found out later that she was 8lbs 13 oz). Tiana Ella May was born on Wednesday 9th July at 09.55. My waters had gone on the Monday 7th July at 5.30pm a total of 40 ½ hours.

I stood up and walked with Tiana to my bedroom and sat on the bed with her. Then the midwife arrived and Gerry went down to greet them. She came upstairs and started talking about getting the placenta out with an injection. She obviously hadn’t read my birth plan. We put her straight on the natural removal of the placenta with no injection. The other midwife arrived and Gerry cut the cord with her guidance. She then put Tiana to my breast to feed her and carried on like this for ages. I could tell Tiana didn’t want to feed but they wanted to help the placenta to come out. I didn’t want to push anymore. In the end after they waited an hour and a half I walked out to the toilet and pushed. It came out into a pot in the toilet and I kept it to inspect later.
> >Then the midwife wanted to inspect me internally so they gave me gas and air. I decided that I quite liked the gas, shame I didn’t have some earlier. They found a bit of remaining placenta and told me to cough. It came out easily. Then the best news ever, only slight grazing and a small laceration, no stitches needed. I did cheer about that.
> >The midwives went and we were left alone. I think I was in a bit of shock cos I was advised to take arnica tablets. The after pains were bad too.
> >I feel so grateful for the fact that I fought the medical system and stood by my decision to have a homebirth despite the fact that the obstetrician wanted me to go into hospital due to gestational diabetes. I know for a fact that my experience would not have been this one if I had listened to them. Instead I had no interference and Gerry delivered his own child. .. what a memory for him to cherish.

Later on that day the contractions were slightly more difficult but they weren’t regular, some were 35 minutes and some were 12 minutes followed by 5 minutes. It continued this way throughout the night. We went to bed around midnight. This was when I put the hypnobirthing cd on and it helped me to relax. I must’ve played it about four times in a row. I slept until each contraction woke me up. Then I woke Gerry each time to write down when each contractions happened. At 3 or 4 am it was getting difficult to deal with the contractions so Gerry put the tens machine on my back. He also put Dave Allen, the comedian, on the computer. I suppose he thought that would make me laugh and release endorphins. I wasn’t listening though.
> >> >By 6 am it got difficult so I asked Gerry to call the midwife, it was still Catherine and she came round. She sat on the bed from 6.30 am until 8.30am when she went off duty. In that time we spoke and my contractions slowed to 35 minutes, she was good pain relief. She told me to call the next midwife when the contractions were every 7 minutes consistently. It would go 10 minutes for a while then down to nine and so on until about 5 minutes and then I must phone. I thought to myself that I couldn’t see that happening.
> >> >We went downstairs and I leant over the birthing ball while Gerry made a cooked breakfast. The contractions reduced me to tears then. I made it over to the table and tried to eat the breakfast but managed a couple of mouthfuls. I told Gerry once again to call the next midwife which he did.
> >> >I crawled up the stairs to have a bath with Gerry following. I got in and immediately Gerry informed me that he needed the toilet. I looked at him a little desperately but off he ran. I tried to sit back ready to pour water on my belly. A big force pushed me forward onto all fours in the water and I knew it was the urge to push, I was worried I would poo in the bath so had to get out. I called out for Gerry to come back, he was pushing at the same time as me on the downstairs toilet. He hurried upstairs after opening the front door for the midwife, and I said that I wanted to use the toilet. I managed to get out of the bath and once over the toilet Gerry said ‘watch its not a b

Hi all,
finally here is my homebirth story............
For two weeks before my due date I had really strong braxton hicks. It felt like the pregnancy would go on forever. I was nesting well and reorganising the house. Gerry was tiling the bathroom so that we could use the shower whilst I was in labour. I said that the baby wouldn’t come until the bathroom was finished. Finally it was done. By then I had made more work for everyone by arranging to pick up a piano for my 12 year old. The shower was finished on the Sunday and the piano was to be picked up on the Monday. My due date was the following Thursday so there was still time. I spent the Monday making room for a piano in the living room. Gerry returned from work with the hire van. He quickly popped in before setting off to collect Daniel (my son) and his friend to help. I began rearranging the lounge to fit in the piano, Josh was helping me. I played Native American music because I had decided that this was the music that I wanted to hear while in labour.
About 15 minutes after he left I was crouching down cleaning the hi-fi when I felt a small amount of fluid leaking. I knew I couldn’t be wetting myself so I thought my waters must have gone. It wasn’t a gush but enough to get me thinking. I decided not to tell anyone because it didn’t necessarily mean that the baby would be born immediately and I wanted the piano picked up safely. So Gerry, Daniel and friend arrived with the piano and put it in the place I created for it. Gerry then left to drop Daniel and his friend off. I continued cleaning and visiting the toilet to change pads. Then I got a phone call from Gerry saying that the hire van had broken down and that he could wait for the RAC. Well I had to tell him then. So I went to pick him up. It was scarey being out cos I thought well so much for a home birth it could end up being a car birth. However, we made it home and had a normal evening.
> >At 11.00pm I decided to inform the midwife as I was having some mild contractions. It was Anne who came out to see me. She took my blood pressure and asked me some questions. Then she went to the hospital to collect a tens machine for me. After an hour she returned and my contractions were still mild and intermittent. Gerry was asleep through all of this because he didn’t get much sleep the night before. I went to bed and slept okay.
On the Tuesday morning I received a phone call from the next midwife on duty, Catherine. She then came to visit me and carried out some checks. I was dressed and happy, talking away as normal. I was still getting contractions but they were still bearable and we stayed at home for the day.

I delivered the placenta naturally too. By the time i'd had a cudle with Katie, DH had cut the cord and i'd got out of the pool and put my dressing gown on, i literally walked from the kitchen into the lounge, went to sit down on the plastic sheet, fleecy rug and towels that dh had put down for me and it just fell out lol!! I thought it would taske at least an hour and it was less than 20 mins!!
