    What a lovely story!

@ShellyDepp: You could have both if you wanted, a home waterbirth

I had my first baby last June, he was born at home in a birth pool we'd set up in the livingroom. It was an absolutely amazing experience as I had no interference whatsoever (mw did attend of course though) and I even lifted him out of the water myself!

It was really such a special experience, I'll treasure that day (yes, including the labour!) forever.

I used HypnoBirthing and can highly recommend it! My husband says I looked completely at peace throughout.

Hiya, I was supposed to have a home birth with my daughter 2 years ago.

When my contractions started I rang the MW who came straight out as with my 1st son the labour was only 3.5 hrs. To cut a long story short, i ended up going through 6 cannisters of gas and air and there was only 1 more available so I didn't want to chance having just 1 left. My labour was double the time and more painful, was transferred to hospital and had my daughter there.

please don't let my story put you off, I have thought about having a home birth again, but since we have moved we don't have the space to move around like before, but would definatly opt for a water birth if I couldn't have a home birth

I woke up at 8.30 with niggles, it was nothing new so I thought nothing of it. by 12ish they were regular and was getting tightenings around my back, as well... needed the loo so went.. contractions got 2-5 mins apart so called mw who sent someone out to assess. I was in latent labour - that painful I went through a whole canister of G&A!!

My mum and dad arrived and my dad took DS1 to a friends house where he stayed all afternoon playing. My mum stayed for a bit but then went home when things eased off

While she was examining she done a S&S. after about an hour she left because the contractions were spacing out. So I took 2 paracetamol and had a hot bath. While in the bath I had the faint urge to push, I called DH up to the bathroom after a few contractions as the urge to push was still there. I called the MWU who sent the same MW out. While I was waiting for the MW I managed to get to the bedroom and laid on the bed where I stayed for the rest of the labour.

When the MW got here she examined me and I was 4cm she told me it was okay to push as long as I stopped when she told me to. The urge was getting stronger and stronger and when the MW examined me an hour later I was fully dilated so I was able to push properly! I was pushing for what seemed like an eternity, but must have only been about 30 mins! The 2nd MW arrived while I was pushing - she had missed the call out as she was hovering her landing!! After what seemed like an eternity of pushing and a change of positions, baby Jacob was born! He had tried to cry as he was born so had swallowed some amniotic fluid and as a result he had to have some help breathing. When he was okay they laid him on to my chest where he stayed for a little while. He was quite heavy on me so my mum had a quick cuddle before the MW took him to weigh - I couldn’t believe it when they said he was 8lb 10½oz!! 2lb heavier than DS1 was when he was born! - they also cut his cord down. My mum then got him dressed and passed him to me. The MW covered me over with a duvet and my dad came up to meet his new grandson. FIL arrived about 30mins later and had a cuddle. The MW went through general things with me and then left. And it was just DH, Jacob and me. It was lovely being able to relax and it was all strangely surreal. DS1 stayed with my mum the first night and she brought him home Monday afternoon. DS1 is besotted with Jacob and always wants kissed and cuddles with him!

all in all it was a positive experience.. i would reccomend a home birth to anyone!
