Thanks. Wouldn't it be nice if there were enough midwives and enough resources for every pregnant woman to get the right birth for her. Maybe one day!.......

Thanks for the advice. The normal service would be £3,000 and the other two IMs who cover this area offer the lot for that price. This lady is the only one who will just do the birth and bit of after care for £1,200. Have emailed her but I suppose she could already be booked in which case it is a non-starter. Sounds like a dream come true and I would happily miss out on twenty years of birthday and Christmas presents to get the birth I really want!!

You could try to negotiate something with her so that in the event that you get NHS midwives on the day, you do not have to pay the full rate.  Not very useful for raising the £1200 I know, but at least it means you may not have to part with all that money if you don't have to.

Ebay everything you don't need!!! That's a good price, it's almost double that where I am. I would LOVE an IM with my next pregnancy but have not yet convinced dp that it is money very well spent......I'm still working on it though

    Good luck xxx

Hello! I have my heart set on a home birth but have found out today, from someone 39 weeks who has same group of midwifes, that home birth would be very unlikely. This is due to the lack of midwives and if you go into labour after hours you can more or less forget about it. This friend has booked an independent midwife and the service she offers sounds fantastic, basically she is on call for you from 37 weeks, stays with you right through, comes back afterwards etc etc. I wouldn't need her for my normal midwife appointments, just the birth so this would be a reduced price. This is still £1,200 and we are struggling for money anyway. Any smart ideas how I could raise the funds?? Thanks Karen (28 weeks)
