There is no reason why you can't have a home birth.  You decide where you are going to give birth not the NHS. The only issue is how much you have to push to get them to realise this.  Have a look on homebirth.org.uk there is a section on 'you can't have a home birth if...overweight' which will give you loads of info if you do run into problems getting what you want.

I desperately wanted a pool which is why I opted for a home birth the first time too.  I would have thought it would be really benificial if you are heavier as you can move so much more easily in the water.  Good luck ttc!

Thanks sandy-jane.  I thought it was the case that you could have a hb even if your were overweight, but it mistifies me really because they won't let you deliver in a birthing centre but you can stay at home!!  I would be happy with the compromise of going to a birthing centre as my hubby is really worried about a hb but don't think I'll be able to!! xxx

    Hi ladies,

Well I'm still ttc at the moment but fell very quickly with dd, so hoping for the same again...fingers crossed!!

I am desperately wanting a home birth because I want to have a water birth and because my bmi is high I don't think I'll be allowed to labour in a birthing suite at hospital.

Could anyone tell me if they are overweight but been allowed a water birth at hospital, or if being overweight would stop me from having a home birth.  I live in Scotland too, so not sure if the rules are different here.

    Thanks in advance xxx
