Hi, Ive been searching the net 4 a couple of days and have finally came across this thankfully. I discovered I was preganant in July and was sent for an early dating scan as due to medication had not had a period for months. Was told about 5 wks, sonograpgher only see 1 baby, but to come back in 2 wks to get more acurate dates.

2nd internal scan on Mon showed 2 babies one 7wks3days with a healthy heartbeat I heard. Then checked 2nd baby, measured 6wks 3 days but could not find a heartbeat.

Was told this often happens, and in a daze just accepted it, since then though i cant stop thinkin maybe baby was just too small to pick up heartbeat. I already a have a bump the size I was when i was 12 wks pregnant with my other children. Midwife says that cos 2 of everything in there and will plateau out as healthy baby grows.

I havent got my next scan date yet but just wish it would hurry up! I dont think I will be able to accept only 1 healthy baby till im checked again.

If anyone else has experienced this, is it normal to feel this way, any comments would be much appreciated. I havent announced im pregnant yet as scared things will go wrong, so cant talk to any of my friends or family.

Thanks AK - I am off to clinic tomorrow, knowing at this stage that I have lost both. I am only hoping now that I will be lucky enough to avoid an erpc Tuesday. I went to GP the Tuesday and blubbered - ut she was really good. Dictated letter to consultant to see if we can get some testing done, maybe karyotyping. she did not say I had a son inbetween 2 of the mc's. Wait and see what comes back, they might say nearly 45, 3 miscarriages, 3 sons, don't even go there again!!

42mum - I hope things work out for you - Don't know why I was looking in here as don't have twins and not pg!! I have dd 3 1/2 and suffered 3 mc's before managing to stay pg with ds now 14 months. By my 3rd mc I was being closely checked at the EPU due to previous 2 so was booked in for an early scan, I was terrified  the lady turned the tv away as she scanned me and then she looked at me with a smile and said well we don't know what will happen but it might be double good news, she could see two sacs although they were small for my dates ( I was worried about the size thing as I was fairly certain of my dates) I went back for a scan a week later after suffering heavy bleeding for a few days and unfortunatly they had not survived, I should have been 9 1/2 weeks but they hadn't grown as expected. I'm sure you wanted positive news but I can only share my experience. I hope for you things work out but just wanted you to know your not alone and I did manage to get pg and stay pg after.

    Big hug, Sarah Xxx

j bates - sorry not answered earlier, dont come on here often. I am happy to answer any questions. i really want there to be alot of awareness with ttts and i am like to share my experiences as they may help to save others.

my boys did have different sacs, well there was a bit of uncertainty as the wall between the sacs was very very thin and not all sonographers saw it. they shared the placenta. ttts happens with shared placentas. Thomas is a normal healthy 14 month old. he has just started walking, and comparing him to my 2.5 year old he is slightly behind but i think only because he is a boy and a 2nd child not because of being the surviving twin.

William was delivered when i gave birth to thomas, he was the size of the palm of my hand and had the shape of a baby, although squashed. thomas was born at 38 weeks pg. the hospital were great with him as they treated him like a still birth so the took him away, took a photo etc, then he went to the local cremetorium and was cremated. could have had a funeral but decided against it, have a tree and plaque in our garden instead. i did not really deliver william the same way i did thomas as william just fell out after i gave birth with thomas, i did not feel him come out at all.

Sorry if this story upsets anyone, please do not worry that the same will happen to you with id twins, alot a born and never having signs of ttts.

The way me and dh look at it, we have 2 healthy children. we have also lost 2 babys (mc and ttts) if anyone told us to have 2 healthy children we would loose 2 we would do it all again the same way.

Just need to ask could they be wrong. Had a second scan last week at about 7 weeks!! Both sacs had grown only a tiny bit, but they could not see anything inside either. Also started to bleed a bit on Monday. Nothing really heavy. They have said they do not think they are viable and am booked infor an erpc on 26th Aug. Gynae doc did suggest if I thought I had passed anything get a scan at EPAU end of next wekend. Feel I want to get one even if nothing happens. Am I deluding myself and giving myself false hopes??

I to have read how common this is and cannot wait to have my 10wk scan in a couple of weeks to see if they are okay. We then go to Florida for 2 weeks which i'm anxious about and will probably not rest until i'm back safe and sound and find out if i've still 2 in there

    Hi Tracey,

do you mind if I ask you a couple of questions,I hope you don't mind?

As they were identical, were they sharing the same sac and the same placenta? So am I right in saying that if one passes away you can still go to have a normal healthy baby? also what happened to your little one that you lost, did you have to deliver him as he was 19 weeks? If you dont feel comfortable answering this then please dont relpy!

We have just found out we are having monoatiotic twins and we have been scared with all the TTTS stories so just trying to find out as mush as poss.

    J xx

this happened to my sister. apparantly this happens alot but as we normally dont have scans till 12 weeks it is not always known as by 12 weeks the sac is not always seen.

My sis does think about it sometimes but think she feels better about it now. mainly because I was pg with id twins. i suffered ttts at 18 weeks and sadly lost william at 19 weeks. i have since gone on to have Thomas who is now 14 months. he is quite clingy (so was my sisters lo) but think that is more to do with him being a boy not a twin thing.

apparently this does happen alot and alot of preggys are twins just that one embryo doesnt always make it... i was warned at a 6wk scan that this could happen and was quite common.

Hi, I have had early scans due to having mc last Nov and bleeding and pains from week 4 - 6 this time around. At 6 week scan they found two sacs and 2 hb's. Just been for my 8 week scan and I now only have one hb. Didnt look as though the other bean lasted much after the last scan at 6 weeks.

I am trying to be upbeat about it as I understand that if I hadnt have had the early scans - I would never have known and this apparently happens a lot and I have one left that is right for dates etc but I have lost a lot of confidence over this. ((hugs)) to anyone else experiencing similar. Kitty x

I had a scan today - owever I do not have a clue of my dates - this is the first time this has ever happened to me - I have 3 sons 17, 14 and 2 and have had 2 misssed miscarriages. Today there were two gestational sacs but only a yolk sac in one, the second was slightly smaller and no sign of a yolk sac. I have another scan in 2 weeks time - 13th Aug to see what is going on. I do not think I have got over the shock yet of seeing two.

hiya i had this only with 2 empty sacs. this is called blighted ovum.

i went for a routine scan due to spotting at 10 weeks, and was told there were 2, but needed to come back in 2 weeks, as they cudnt see much.

i went back 2 weeks later and they confirmed they were empty.

i was gutted and felt very cheated cos there hadnt been anything there in the first place, but i still had a sense of loss.

hope u dont mind, im gc from dim x

Hi. I had a scan at 7+4, first saw an empty sac and then another one with hb. The baby looked very developed for 7 weeks, with the head up, instead of curled into chest. Has this happened to anyone? Did it turn out to be twins, and is it too late for a baby to develop after 7 weeks? I have so many questions, sorry. Thanks for your help in advance.
