Friggin CSA! I never realised they didn't inform the DWP that you got CSA payment. I got a letter today telling me that when I was gettin £16 a week back in 2006 I now have to pay back £750!!!!!! I now only get £1 as he is on job seekers!!!!  I am struggling already!!!!

, really mad about this. LO dad only has to pay £5p/w because he's on job seekers. This i only get fortnightly. That just covers a box of baby milk. I kno wfull well all he does with his moni is go on fruit machines in the local pub. It infuriates me, how can they get away with paying so little to help towards there childs upkeep.

sori just had to have a rant xx.

nat, you've def got wires crossed. CSA themselves take nothing. If absent parent is assessed as paying more than £10 per week the government take the amount above £10 in lieu of your IS, but there is no percentage reduction - if he's assessed as paying £10 per week or less you get it all.

I think the changes they're making are coming into effect from 14th July i know that's when they're changing the rule about deducting 40% of your IS if you don't claim CSA anyway.  Lucy I don't think you will even get the (whole) £5 off of him as like i said before CSA take a percentage of any money they take from the fathers pay cheque (or job seekers)

Does that work for example, you weren't on benefits and the dad owed you money but then went on benefits...would the back dated payments be taken into account for IS??

You're supposed to get the amount that you would be getting in IS (or if the father cannot afford that much then whatever they can afford and IS should make it up to the original amount of IS) it's to stop the government from having to pay you the full amount if you can get it off the father.  I know CSA take a percentage of it - think it's for tax or something.  You only get the full amount of money when you are working but i don't know why they have decided on £10 sounds a bit measely.  Suppose if you're only getting that though and would get more if you were working they will see it as an incentive(spelling?!?!) for you to go back to work along with working tax and back to work bonus.  Sorry but i realise i've probably been no help at all
