when i worked as a playgroup teacher, i was told that the teachers and also the surrounding schools teachers were NOT allowed to have a look through children's hair. This invades the child's personal privacy.

tbh with you, with some kids, you could actually see the horrids crawling!!!!!

So NO, i dn't think it's the teachers place to look. YES i agree to bring back the nit-nurse.... but.... who on earth would be paid enough to put their hand through endless kids hair with nits in them. NOT my idea of a perfect job! eeewww!!!

weve got an epidemic at the moment, my son got them forthe first time recently, hes been at school for four years, so we have done well

a deputy head wanted a letter to go out to all parents but the head wants to "tow the line" and do it properly, informing health dept etc.  So, a feeble weak message came out in a newsletter, amongst other details, so the message has been lost and parents are not aware of how serious the problem is in the school

the kids were told to tell the teacher if they had nits - as if they are going to admit it!

i cant believe how expensive the lotions are, and now my ds is paranoid

My daughter is 11 and still gets em!! grrrrr.

There is one girl in her class who is a really nice girl but her parents are dirty and look it and dont seem to cut thier hair or de-nit her the whole class knows and the teacher who keeps spreading them but the teacher says her hands are tied all she can do is send letters to everyone!

The nits fall of her hair on to her work poor girl I feel very sorry for her luckly the girs are all nice to her as they know its not her fault, its very sad and unfair on the child.

My daughters old nursery where good on nits...if a child was scratching they checked the child and if they found nits the parents were called to take the child home and not to attend again until treated (asked for receipt of purchase of nit stuff) So my dd never had them.

My ds's school is completely opposite, every other week we get a letter saying someone has been found with nits and treat your child...I do ds's hair every sunday with conditioner and not comb now as one time he really got a bad infection and I caught them, but my hair was very long and it was awful doing my own...especially when I found one in mine....ewww!!

I think schools should do the same, if a child is scratching, just take a look and ring the parent.....

At my dd's school you can tell which child it is as the parents are (it might sound awful) but terrible, they stand outside f'ing and blinding at the 3 kids they have in infant classes and we all just cringe at their language.

I got sick of paying a fortune for other parents not treating their kids.
