DS was 5 in February and at the top end of his reception class. Their is a huge variation of normal children and I think the teacher does an amazing job with 30 such different children.

DS is at level 5 ORT with his reading (from 1 in January) and doing addition and subtraction to 20. I think most impressive are the social skills that are taught. Some of his class are so tiny.

Hi...my dd will be 6 in October (she's in reception class). Im really proud of her for how well shes done this year at school. Shes on level 4 reading books(english) and level 2 in reading welsh books.  She's counting up to 20 in welsh and near  100 in english. Doing really well with adding and subtracting numbers up to 20 and is now learning to tell the time.

Hi Ladies my daughter is slightly older she is 5 and 10mths she is one of the younger ones in year 1 and she is the opposite to your lo's she is struggling to read she now recognises certain sounds like ee and oo she now recognises a and the and a few others she still gets mixed up with letters that look similar in the alphabet like b, d, v, y. Maths also she is struggling she can count to ten then starts getting mixed up to 20. But saying that she was a very late talker, she was 3 before she said a word. Everyone kept saying her brother and sister did all the talking for her, then my youngest daughter is 1 and saying quite a few words and now i get her brothers and sisters are bringing her on????? Melissa has one to one work and small group work to help her catch up. It is not through trying at home i read to her every bed time i have tried number and letter games jigsaws, computers but i think she is trying to get there bless her. Sharon x
