Hi my dd is in year 1 she is one of the younger ones she is a little behind she brings home 3 spellings a week to learn they tried her with 3 harder ones but she is struggling with them they gave her 3 easy ones go, my and yes and she got them all right bless her. I also read to her every night and have done since the age of 2 as she did not speak until she was 3 and half. I think i shall see how she goes in year 2 and i think the teachers will as well, she can count up to 20 but still gets muddled up, so she is behind overall she still gets mixed up with some of the alphabet none of my others were like this she is also very hyper and can be quite naughty you say no she will do it. My son is also 7. He gets spellings every week which he learns himself, Times tables he just doing 7 x and he reads every night. But that is out of choice. My dh and I got worried that he wasn't bringing home any set homework but I think it's because they have been doing them SATS they haven't given him much. My other ds in reception gets a set piece of homework every friday to be handed in by wednesday as well as two books at a time, which he reads must nights. Bearing in mind he is only 4 nearly 5 seems alot.

My daughter gets about that much
a 30 ish page book every night
10 spellings she has to read, cover and write 6 times then put them into sentances
2 pieces of maths homework
She is 6 1/2 and in year 1 I think this is too much for her (she can do it but moans)

my son just gets a worksheet that he never takes more than 5mins to do. it has a few spellings on it which are words he got wrong in his written work in the classroom, and they practice at school anyway, a few sums and one other article to do.
we are obviously expected to listen to them read, but I dont class this as homework as such, but I suppose the "government" do.
it just seemed hard when they quoted 1.5 hours, but I suppose broken down, its not a lot really

hello
my dd get 10mins of reading a night, sometimes it doesn't take that long it depends how much she's read in school, all we have to do is re read it, then on a monday she comes home with 10 spellings to learn for the next monday, so it's ment to be about 50 mins a week but sometimes it's only 30 mins.
she's in year 1, she 6 1/2 years old,
i know other local school have a few math sheets to do a week aswell as reading and spellings,
10 mins a night is nothing really, as they get older it's going to get much worse, at the mo dd enjoys doing her homework but i'm sure in a few years time it'll be a fight to get her to do it.

should be getting 90minutes homework each week as per government guidelines!!!
this is shocking, no wonder parents feel their kids are under pressure.
my ds gets 5minutes a week (hes 7)
Ive just been watching the programme that watched the children over a 48hour period and made comparisons about playtime, tv, computer games, social skills etc etc and the above comment was made
Do your kids get this amount of work?
