It's all very good saying to trust them not put them on a diet but when your 10 year old is about to be obese if she caries on and can not do her PE lesson because she is getting too fat you have to take measures.

I have a weight problem caused by over eating in pregnancy and not doing any thing when I was ill. I have since lost 2st and have another 3st to go. As a familt in general we all eat healthy food as that is what I cook any way.

Her problem is that she doesn't care and just wants to eat. It isn't a comfort thing her tummy has got streched as she always eats till she feels sick almost!!!!!!!! She has to eat every 1-2hrs at home or she has toddler tantrums. She has fallen out with me at the moment as there is nothing but fruit and diet yoghurts for snacks, she has now got round this by making sandwiches! She is always hungry. I am now going shopping for her some new clothes as at 10 she can no longer get her middle into age 12 and I am going to have to buy adult or age 16!!!!!!!!!

Now is the time I could help her turn this round, she will be going to college in 2 years here where fashion and weight will be a big issue I don't want her ending up being bullied or getting any eating dissorder.

I have a DS who is 6 but he is a very big boy and eats like a horse. My DS will ask and ask for food, want everyone's left overs and calls down the stairs for food when he should be in bed. He does not take food without asking, but I really think that you need to find out why your son feels the need to steal food. I remember doing the same as a child and my food problems continue to this day.  I still sneak food upstairs at night to eat in bed and panic if I think my DH will catch me. I know for me food makes me feel safe and secure and getting in bed with a snack is like heaven.  I wish my parents had tried to get to the bottom of my food issues because twenty odd years later I am extremley over weight and sill hide food and sneak about eating treats.   I do not believe in diets for children, healthy eating and life style should be the key and then a diet would not be needed. My kids eat healthy with the odd treat and do lots of sports and activites. But this is a case of do as I say and not as I do. I am sure my DS wants food at bedtime because he has seen me do it! Although it must be very difficult to have his food stealing I cannot encourage you enough to find out why he needs to. It may be difficult for him to explain, but please don't let him end up like me with problems going on for years.  Locking the cupboards takes away any chance of trust and he needs that trust to open up to you. Good luck xxx

I have a similar problem but my DD is only 10 and almost the same weight. She has the same size waist I had at age 21, 29 inches!!!!!

I put her on a diet as I have real trouble buying clothes to fit her where I don't take the sleves in, legs up etc.

She too takes food in her room and hides it or I find empty wrapers. She pretends to be good in the day then wrecks it all by stealing food!!!!

Unless your son is fat I think he must need the food but 4 sausage rolls in the middle of the night is a lot. Have you tried treating him for worms?

Other than that your going to have to go the same route I think we are going to have to go on a lock and key for the kitchen.

My son has just turned 11 and weighs about 7.5 stone, the problem is that food is going missing out of the cupboards, when you ask him about it he say it is not him but if you go into his bedroom and look behind things they is empty packets and half eaten food. i have talked to my health visiter about it and she said to start making meals that digest slower to make him feel full for longer but this has not helped. The other week 4 sausage rolls went missing, it took him four days to own up, he said he was hungary in the middle of the night.

What can i do i have already got magnetic locks on the cupboards, if anybody has had the same poblems i would love to hear from you
