I as well have to walk DS to school in sunny, rainy and snowy weather (half walk and half in a overcrowded bus). And with a pushchair but I get my raincoat and DS's and the plastic cover for the pushchair and there we go. DS loves going to school so he doesn't mind the rain.

This flippin horrid weather, we have a 3 mile walk to school. I chuck the kids in their waterproofs and wellies and they change into school shoes once there. I wear my sexy Berghaus raincoat and goretex boots. My 4th child, he gets to walk to and from school and also back out another mile and back from playgroup in it, however he loves it. Put his wellies and puddlejumper on and he is in his element.

If you have a long walk or it gets wet and muddy, waterproof overtrousers are a good buy. They are also useful for the park too as you can wash the mud straight off under the tap and let them on the slide even if it is wet and dirty.
Once you are dressed for the weather it might be quite fun to go puddle splashing. Try the Muddy Puddles website for good quality waterproofs (though we managed to find children's sizes in a local charity shop).
If it is going to rain, it waits for the school run! but at least you know that it rains just as hard on everyone: rich and poor, posh and not so. The only folk who stay dry are the babies in prams with rain covers!
Hot soup and a dry towel are fantastic when you get home on a day like that.

Welcome to the world of the rainy school run. You can guarantee it always poors it down when it's time for school run or school pick up. You get past the point of caring what you look like, especially in winter. Wellies on, hat on, hood up, that's me anyway.
As for your LO if it is pooring it down when your walking take a spare pair of trousers just incase, then if he is soaking when you get there, he can always change.
