Hi, I'm no expert but as far as I know having Irlen's syndrome is not the same as dyslexia - I have 3 children in my class who use overlays (each one a different colour!) but only one of those children is dyslexic! Irlens is a visual distortion problem so words can be blurry or move about the page.

Hi as a lot of you may know through reading on other posts about my daughter struggling, well last week i asked the senco about dyslexia and he said they can test for irlens, well she as some type of irlens and needs red colour see through sheet over books etc, well the teacher gave her it today and Melissa decided to cut it into shreds????? So she had golden time taken off her and i have to pay for another sheet, luckily it doesn't cost the earth £2 but it is besides the point. The teacher wasn't impressed as they ask for a contribrution towards the price but now they definatley need the £2 to replace it as obviously Melissa needs it, hopefully it will help with her learning, does that mean she still as dyslexia or is it certain types, i don't know? Hi thanks for that, i did think it was a type of dyslexia but wasn't sure, but will see how she goes, at the moment she is about a year and a half behind i have taken into consideration that she is one of the younger ones otherwise she would have been two years and a bit behind which is a lot to catch up on i think if she gets a lot of work one to one she may catch up, i know she does small group work, which i am pleased with as in large groups she seems to be away with the fairies and i noticed in all her text books last year that the same comment was on every single page, why are you not understanding whilst on the mat but when told one to one you get it, well that says it all doesn't it. But i felt like a neurotic mum last year but now they are realising that i was right i do feel better even though i would rather not be right and have her like the rest of the children. Sorry i can ramble. Thanks for answering. Sharon x
