I was obsessive compulsive about movements on my pg after my loss - Like u the 1st I knew there was anything wrong was when Aidan stopped moving and once he was born we discovered there was a knot in the cord.

Hearing the heartbeat was horrible for me cos every time I thought well it was fine last time till it wasnt and again like u the movements made me more confident everything was Ok more so.... So when LO had a quiet day I wld b going off my head trying to get him move more! I did find orange juice or ice lollies did the trick quite well tho if thats any help??

I think its perfectly normal to stress about movements and nothing is going to stop u doing it - the onlt reassurance ur going to get is when ur lo is born breathing and healthy.... The stress is honestly worth it in the end even tho I did say that I wld never do it again after my last pg...... Even having said that I am now pg again and am finiding it much less stressful this time than last ( this wasnt planned mind u!) I'm not as obsessed this time cos I think my odds are better now than they were before and I am further down the path of greiving etc and more logically and l;ess emotional than I was on my 1st pg after my loss if that makes sense?

Anyway I guess what I;m saying is ur not alone at all - we are all the same under the circumstances - something to take comfort in I suppose - we can all go mad together lol....

Good luck with the rest of your hopefully uneventful pg

    x

Thankyou for all your replies. I'm so sorry for your losses too! In a very strange way I am glad I'm not the only one who has these fears. I wish I could relax and enjoy this but since I'm off work at the moment (I'm a teacher so its summer holidays) I seem to have more time to sit and wonder if she's moving or not! Must make myself busy more I think!

Laura, I'm sorry if I worried you. It was strep A our son had, not strep b. They're very different and although strep a the baby caught is very dangerous, it's also very rare for a baby to catch it and be affected as Callum was. They don't know how he caught he - possibly a weakness in the placenta and it came through from me but it's not something to worry about with strep b.

    Thankyou for all the replies!

I know exactly what you mean. My daughter was stillborn at 32 weeks. I am now 30 weeks and terrified of 32 weeks coming around. This baby has quiet days and does worry me but I do try to relax as much as I can. My midwife is really good and I can see her whenever I want. Im also having regular appointments with consultant and having growth scans.

Hope everything goes well in your pregnancy.

    Hi

Read your posts and sorry for your losses.  Was just a little worried as I have had a previous loss, and am now nearly 20 weeks - but have strep b, which the doctor assured me couldnt affect the baby whilst it ws in the womb - may i ask how it affected the baby as if there is a chance there could be a problem, I would obviously want to speak to my doctor.  I hope asking is ok, and again, sorr for your losses.

I know exactly how you feel. We lost our Connor at 27 weeks last July and like you the only symptom I had that something was wrong was lack of movement. - Connor had a strong heartbeat (which we heard on the midwives doppler)  but was unconscious and dying and only a ECT scan showed he had a problem. So like you hearing the heartbeat on the midwives hand held doppler is of no real reassurance.

I am now 29 weeks pregnant and VERY paronoid that my baby is not moving enough. They never found out what Connor's problem was and so we just have to keep our fingers crossed that history will not repeat itself.

The hospital and midwives have been fantastic they let me go into the labour ward whenever I am worried an carry out an ECT or arrange a scan so that I can tell the baby os OK. I tend to go down a couple of times a week. I am also having growth scans carried by the Consultant every 2 weeks.

I really recommend calling the labour ward whenever you are worried as they won't mind you popping down and checking baby out - I tend to be in and out within an hour and it is much better than sitting and worrying.

Good luck with the remainder of your pregnancy

I kno where u r comin frm i 2had a loss in the 2nd trimester which they also thought was frm a strep b infection.  I knew there was something wrong when id felt no movement for days so went to midwife where she then couldnt find the heartbeat so ref me to hospital where a scan confirmed she was gone!! !

It has taken me 2mc's and almost 3yrs to now get to 2the stage im at 2day which is 26/27wks pregnant(whichever way ud like to count it) and i still get VERY nervous ive loads of paranoid days when i think there is something wrong BUT it is gettin easier.. honest

I felt no movement til around almost 24wks, this was worryin in itself however i do have an anterior placenta which bubs apparently is hittin more than me haha so even now i have really quite days&i do worry!  In all honesty tho i kno its easier said than done but u need to try not to stress 2much it wont help either of u just come on here&chat or if uv some1 at home u can talk2..  talk 2them!! !

    Hi all,

I'm DIN but don't feel I can discuss this there for fear of worrying other ladies with my story,

I lost my son Callum at 24 weeks in Oct 07 due to a strep A infection he caught which is quite rare. First signs something was wrong though was him not moving.

I'm now 25+5 weeks but this time I am terrified every time the little girl I'm carrying now has a quieter day. I know it's normal for them to not move loads every day and she's normally very active but days like today where she's being a bit quieter are so terrible for me - I think the worst and try everything to make her move.

Does anyone else feel like this?? My midwife is great and says I can see her any time to be checked but as Callum's heartbeat was heard just hours before we lost him and sounded great, the listening to the hb this time just doesn't reassure me as much as her movements do.

I'm probably just waffling now but it's good to talk about this somewhere I know other people might understand

    Thanks for listening

    Emma
