my lo is just the same, but she is almost 5 weeks - she never really feed for longer than 5-10 mins, all book ect say she should be feeding for at least 20-25 mins. so i was worring. but she is gainning weight well, approx 6 oz a week roughly and is going 3 hrs between feeds, so hv and mw said not to worry she is just eficient! Itried every thing towake her and nothing really worked so i just try not to worry about it now! HTH
Hi, MY dd never fed for long to start with, but i found that after about 3 weeks she was feeding longer and was a lot more awake.
Babies can be very sleepy, but i would say offer it every 3 hours, don't let it go any longer between for a few days. Also I would as the hv suggested express some off before each feed so you get the cream to the front.
you could also try expressing, and then cup feeding it to your lo. My dd was sometimes half asleep but would still swallow if i pored it into her mouth (small bits at a time)
Hope you girls can help DS (33 mnths) was a terrible feeder on breast, bottle and solids. Only gained 1/2 - 1 oz overy week and it was mega stressful.
DD now 10 days doesn't feed for very long (2-5 mins) every 3 hours. MW says she is a very efficient feeder (swallowing with every suck) and as long as I express some of the foremilk to make sure that she is getting the calorific stuff then everything should be fine.
However last few days she has been going 3-4 hours between feeds and then only feeding for 5 mins, worried that she will go the same way as DS and I will go bonkers. Have tried everything to wake her up/keep her awake but nothing works. Feel ready to give up and put her on the bottle - anyone else experienced the same?

Thanks girls, getting her weighed on Monday so hopefully she will have gained weight. If so I will try to stop worrying, if not then I will look at expressing.
Thanks
