I don't know if it was the infacol or not having any bottles for a few days but yesterday and lastnight was a different story it was like it was before. He had EBM in the bottles that he did hav...i even bought the tommy tippee anti colic bottles too lol.
I have given him the infacol and he slept in the afternoon from 2.30 til 5, then he fed at 7 til just after 10 he fed for about 45 mins in total then and went from 11pm til 4.30am before wanting another feed. He went to sleep at 12 so that was great, then he has wanted a feed every two hours since he woke up which is fine as he does tend to feed more during the day going longer as the day goes on.
He's quite a bit calmer its just a feed me cry now and the farting is back.

My DS has developed colic in the last week, he is 22 days old.
HV said today to try cooled boiled water, a warm bath before bed and a tummy massage. We have done all this (and infacol for good measure). He has been asleep 3 times now, and woken screaming twiice, but currently asleep. Fingers and toes crossed as it was 3:30am last night before I finally got him settled.
He is BF only so no relation to formula. I am a dietitian am as far as I am aware cows milk protein cannot pass over into BM and it naturally contains lactose anyway.

Hi there, infacol is quite good for some people but it does take a few days to kick in. The main culprit in mum's diet tends to be dairy - a lot of babies can be intolerant to the cow's milk proteins or have difficulty digesting the lactose in milk. Colief can be added to ebm & will help to break down the lactose if this is the problem, eventually you can wean off the colief once your baby's gut matures. If it's the cows milk protein which is causing upset then a dairy free diet needs to be followed ( but do make sure you replace your calcium with supplements or supplemented drinks/foodstuffs). I had to go dairy free after blood tests confirmed my son was intolerant ( he had vomiting/eczema & painful wind) & it took 3-4w before I really noticed an improvement.
Some people say fizzy drinks can be a problem - I am not sure how though!! I don't imagine the bubbles pass through!! Good luck with the infacol. Nursing in upright positions can help too & making sure you have a good latch, also massage can help. Oh, I also drank Fennel tea as this is meant to help. I found Gripe Water great at getting wind up once Joseph was old enough for it. Try one thing at a time for a couple of weeks at least to see what helps xx

In the past few days Daniel has started to get colic. By the night time he is really upset by it.
I went to the health visitor today and she said to drink a few yacults a day and if that doesn't work try infacol, i went and got the infacol right away as he really isn't happy and it breaks my heart to see him like that. He's trying to go to sleep but its keeping him awake.
What i want to know is, is there anything i can do to help him. Is there anything i can avoid. I have been drinking alot of tonic water lately do you think that could be the problem?

Claire, u sound like my doctor! and thats a bad coment to recieve. . .
I am a dietitian am as far as I am aware cows milk protein cannot pass over into BM and it naturally contains lactose anyway.
Everything we eat and drink, our bodies take all 'the good stuff' and some of the bad, that isnt recognised as being bad, and converts it into milk. that is why u can not have certain natural remedies, why we cant take millions of drugs, including PND drugs... as it all passes through.
yes our milk contains human protiens and lactose, but babys stomachs can digest this, what most babies stomachs have a problem with, is protiens made for cows. they find this hard to digest. the protien is too big/heavy for los stomachs to digest. some of these babys (+ adults) can tolorate goats milk instead. but not all can.
i have been to see a dietician regarding this as my lo was diagnosed as having colic, then reflux when infact it is allergy to cows milk. wether tht be lactose or protien i dont know as my pead keeps putting off the tests as i have eliminated all cows milk sources from my diet, as there is no cure, their is no point in doing. . my dietician had said she was more worried about my calcium intake as i was only having goats milk in morning with my breakfast so she prescribed me calcium tablets (that i can not take as it says do not take if u are breastfeeding!)
to original poster, to see if it is milk intolorance, just cut out milk from ur diet for about 2 weeks, by end of 1st week, lo should be lessening on the colic symptoms and may have spots/rash appear on body, this is just the toxins comingout of los body through skin, as the body isnt fighting agianst he milk it can now get rid of it...
good luck.
ohh also Dill is good for wind. u can get it as a dried herb where u get salt n peper aisle, or u can buy as fresh herb... just sprinkle over potatoes or fish... dill is what they use in infacoil/dentanox and colief....
