No, better not to do so ! Stimulation of the nipples can cause labor. It isn't just a old wives tale! Many women use this technique to induce labor naturally instead of drugs.
Remember that the first few days after delivery, there will not be any milk, just colostru, which are great nutrients for the baby. Your milk will come in a few days after delivery. Aim for frequent nursing (10-14 times per 24 hours) in the beginning; it encourages a good milk supply and helps it to establish and it helps prevent engorgement.
Good luck to you and the baby ! Take care !21/8/08 06:41
Your newborn will only need a teaspoon of your colostrum (the first milk produced for the first 3-5 days) at the begining. This small amount would be lost in the workings of a pump. When your milk comes in to produce bigger volumes around day 4 it has a different make up. It is designed to meet baby's need at that moment.
I see no great benefit in pumping before birth and even the nipple stimulation might be enough to start labour before you are ready! I am sure that by the end of the first week you will find you have loads of milk and might be able to fit in a once per day expression to start to build up the stock in your freezer. With my first, I ended up with so much milk in the freezer that I was putting it on the roses as I had too much.
If you have time to kill now why not fill your freezer with home baking and portions of meals that you can heat quickly so you don't have to cook during the first week with your new arrival.
Best of luck for the birth and for BF.
