My little one coughed and struggled with the first bottle. She has had 3 now and took the third one no problem. She just needed to get used to it. I limit it to once a day max though cos I don't want to confuse her and interfere with breastfeeding.

Imagine having that massive teat in your mouth after a nipple!!

Take it slowly an lo will get used to it...... eventually!!

dd is 8 months and will not have anything out of a bottle.  She gets really upset at the sight of it now.  We were recommended to give her a dummy for her reflux but she will not tke it either.  She will take water from a cup but not milk, expressed or formula.  We have had to get used to not getting out.  I have not had a night out in over a year.  Went to my best friends wedding, was supposed to do bridesmaid but had to give it up.  Granny tried several times to give her bottle when i wasnt there but she wouldnt take it.  Went to bed hungry so i had to come home and feed her

My baby's 5 months and drinks water through 2 baby cups or an ordinary plastic beaker. I have tried giving him expressed milk through these and through a bottle 3 times and he screams the house down(which really isnt like him!), then I had to go out for a couple of hours for a dinner one night last week and he just fell asleep on my husbands shoulder. It's definately when the breast is about. They know how to play on us! He would never go to sleep without a feed with me around!

he is 5 weeks tomorrow, we did it like this he was just choking.  Had it on slowest flow.  Hubby was gutted as he was really looking forward to getting involved

Hi there, other thing that can happen is lo might not take it when the breast is about.  My lo is terrible for this  - I cannot be anywhere near her or she won't take the bottle.

hello. how old is he? you should really wait for 6 weeks before you give a bottle to a breastfed baby. my dd was fine with bottles but hates them now so i can never leave her with anyone! to give a bottle tilt it upwards slightly, tickle the top lip and when the mouth is open wide put it in! make sure the teat is full with milk so air cant get in! baby should suck as if it was your nipple. hope this helps x

My hubby and I had a go at giving our lil man a bottle of  breast milk this evening but he couldn't take to it.  I got a variflow teat as he striggled the other day taking water from airflow as it just poured out.  How do you give a bottle!?!
