A friend leant me the book 'The womanly art of breastfeeding' from the La leche league. The title is a bit odd I grant you but th ebook was fantastic. they had good pictures and advice about all kinds of scenarios including what happened to me (baby falling asleep all the time) which made me feel part of a big happy booby family :-) I don't know how much it costs maybe they have it in your local library, I would think about buying a copy if you think you will need a reference.
Good luck! Sally

Well i have been going for 7 weeks now and have not found it hard at all - much easier than messing around sterilising and making up feeds so dont be put off attempting it, I found you get a lot of help now with it as they really encourage you in hospital - try to stay there as long as you can to focus on just on the two of you. also like previous posters said, this forum is wonderful and ful of great advice and support if ever you feel down. good luck

Thanx ladies

I wont deny Im terrified of the idea of breast feeding, but thats because all ive heard is the horror stories of how hard it is!
Im determined this time though, no more sterilising bottles for me(unless i express every now and then that is lol)

Hi hun, as pp said, this forum is great - it's kept me going for the last 5 weeks! Nobody tells you the hard part of breast feeding but it it's really rewarding and there is light at the end of the tunnel if we perservere! Oh and the kellymom site is great too

As pp says these forums are such a great support. I don't think i would still be feeding if it wasn't for them, my local bfing group and my breast pump.
Here are the two sites i use alot -
http://www.kellymom.com/bf/index.html
http://www.thebirthden.com/Newman.html
The kellymom site is great once to learn to get around it. If you post questions people will send you a specific link.
The birthden was a god send to me when i was having problems with latch.
I recomend you go to your local bfing group, you can go before lo is born too. I write down the problems/questions i have then the HV goes through them and helps to sort them.
Nothing can prepare you for the hard work bfing involves. Just be prepared to sit and feed for the first weeks. It takes 6 weeks to establish your supply to what your baby needs. As long as you know its not easy at first you will be fine. It does get easier. were at almost 4 months now and i love it. Its so good once you get over the hurdles, such an amazing feeling.
My bigest advise would be to feed your baby as soon as its born. This will get you off to a good start. we fed for 3/4 of an hour before she was weighed.
Whatever you do if your adamant your bfing don't buy formula. Its so easy to think i will give a bottle for a rest, this will only harm your supply then its such hard work to get it back. If you want to give a bottle express some milk.
Feel free to ask any questions you have.
The best of luck with your delivery, and congratulations on wanting to breastfeed.

Hi there,
I have found this forum extremely helpful and reassuring, more so than any of the mw or hv team!! I love www.kellymom.com and www.drjaygordon.com - both great sites though there is lots of links so you can end up being detoured all over the place.
I attended local bf workshops as part of ante natal classes which gave me the incentive & confidence to try bf & saw a bf counsellor with the NCT ( you don't have to be a member to do this) once I was home. Despite all the literature I picked up, life as a bf mother still came as a shock!! The first few weeks are very demanding, your baby will want to be held & suckling ALL the time, don't be suprised if this happens through the night as your Prolactin levels are highest at night & this is the hormone which makes your milk. Drink lots of water, each little and often & rest as much as you can. For me, co-sleeping has worked really well, and using a bf sling.
I was very unsure whether I would manage to bf before I started, nobody in my family has ever done it, but I can honestly say it has proven to be one of the most wonderful & rewarding things I have ever done. My son is now 23w old and we will soon be weaning but I hope to continue bf for a year or beyond if he wants to.
Good luck with it all, hope you have a safe delivery,
Maggy x

Hi there ladies
Im currently 24+4 weeks with my 3rd baby
I didnt breast feed either of my 2 sons, well for afew days anyway, but this time I am determined to give it a real go and not give up
With my last 2 I just didnt have the support, I didnt no how long I should be feeding for, how often, or if I had my babys latched on properly ect, the midwife was useless and I felt stupid foning her everytime I needed to feed my baby

I really want to breastfeed this time around, I need to get rid of all my worries and niggles by getting asmuch info as pos before hand so I know exactly what to expect, so if i do get into abit of apickle I wont just go straight to the bottle
Does anyone know any good books, websites, anywhere i can find good info so i can read up well in advance

Thanx girls
