I've got a slightly old fashioned baby book and it mentions there that som mothers who are breastfeeding and worry about how much baby is getting do 'test-weighing', where they weigh the baby before and after each feed for x amount of time to see how much they are taking at each feed. Sounds like a lot of hassle to me, but maybe worth a try if you're worried. Failing that simply seeing an increase in weight at weekly weigh-ins will provide reassurance baby is getting enough. Generally speaking though, I'd have thought baby would be obvious unsatisfied after each feed if it wasn't getting enough, and it would only be after a good while that the baby would become too tired and weak to make the effort.

It all sounds promising. I would contact your local bf advisor to check latching as lo needs to get that right to drain your breast fully. Well done you!! xx Remember your body will need settling time like any mum who started from birth so give it time.

I knwo you shouldn't time etc when breast feeding but just wondering how often and for how long you 3 week olds feed for?  As you may have read already I am trying to get my LO off FF and onto the breast again after two weeks (been trying for a week)  was told by HV that my body will be able to tell when I have enough and I feel like I am there as I am only having to top her up twice with FF in 24hr's but abit worried that shes sleeping because she hasn't got the energy.  (not sure if babies do that) My boobs feels so full after about 3 hours and I leek no end - managed to leek though my breast pad earlier xxx
