DD is 3 1/2 and is only just getitng the hang of pooing in the toilet! She has a reward chart and knows when her chart is full she can have the happyland coffee shop!! We did the same to get her to move from potty to toilet - bribery is the only way with her!!

We're still having dirty nappies once or twice a week - I'm working on the theory that we will get there once she is dry at night - a long way off yet!!

I keep myself sane by reminding myself that she rarely has accidents during the day so I'll keep putting a nappy on her at night for as long as I have to!

    Good luck everyone!

hi all. we need some help with this too!!

our little boy has just turned 4 but still isnt keen to poo on toilet. his wees are no problem but always tries to poo at night with his nappy on.

we have tried everything and he has done some and when we think we are getting somewhere he goes back to doing it in pants or nappy!

we have tried putting a toy up that he can have when he poos, conviscating toys till he does it, being sad but understanding, getting more mad to see if he understands, stopping treats till he does it, reading to him on the toilet instead of in bed etc etc.

nothing seems to work and yet we make a real fuss if he does do it on the toilet, dont know what else to try?? luckily he never does it when we are out or when he is at nursery

I know this is not great but does LO watch you havinng a poo?  My DD likes to always be with me so often saw me having a poo and since starting toilet training has no problem what so ever having a poo on the toilet.  It took about 2 weeks from when she first wee'd on the toilet til she then poo'd on the loo and now there's no stopping her also once she started weeing on the toilet I started emptying her poo nappies in the loo wih her watching so she knew her poo could go down the loo not just in a nappy.  It's horrible but DD has always like to inspect the contents of the toilet before it's flushed so she knew that I was definately pooing in the loo not just saying that I was! YUK!

That's quite a good idea kiwigirl!  I thought we had cracked it at the weekend as DS pooed in the toilet Friday, Saturday and Sunday - to much cheering and clapping each time!  Then on Monday again he was back to whingeing and crying and holding it in....which he did until Tuesday morning when he managed to squeeze it out into his nappy before I got him out his pjs.  He's held on today too and if he hasn't had one by the time I get home from work it'll be held on all day tomorrow too cos he's at  nursery and he won't poo there!  Ah the joys eh....nowts simple!

i had similar problems with DD, she mastered going to wees in the potty and then the toilet with no problem at all but at the beginning just wouldn't do poo in the potty and would hold on to it all day and we could tell she was in distress and pain and then would do it in her nappy overnight. In the end when it was clear she needed to go we just sat her on the potty and held her there and kept comforting her and offering rewards of stickers and a small chocolate. She eventually did do it but still wasn't keen until i got her a present which i put up on the shelf which she could see and told her that she could play with it each time she did a poo on the potty and she has been really good since. And in just the last couple of days she has moved from doing poo on the potty to doing it in the toilet. Am now considering night training as she is usually dry in the morning. She has only been out of nappies since end of May but as she was almost 3 then had quite a bit of understanding. Best of luck.

Well Charlie did a poo on the loo.I did tell him if he did it he would get a present.

So I took him to the early learning centre he told the lady at the till that he was getting animals for doing a poo.

I'm sure thats just what she wanted to know!!!

Just thought I'd let you know how I'm getting on now!  I ended up putting a nappy on DS on sunday as we got to the point where he was howling as he'd held on to his poo for so long it was hurting him.  Even when filling his nappy he was crying - I felt so sorry for him!  As he is wearing his nappy at bedtime I've been leaving it on that little bit longer in the mornings so that he has his usual morning poo in it!  Spoke to my HV today and she said mastering pooing in the toilet can take anything up to 6 months - bit of a depressing thought but hey-ho!  She says he'll do it when he's ready and I will possibly find that one day he'll just do it without really thinking about it - roll on that day!  so for now if he needs a poop I'll just have to try him on the loo and if he doesn't want to then I'll pop a nappy on him.  We're doing well with pees on the toilet so I'll stay content with that for now!  After all...Rome wasn't built in a day!!!

    I'm having the same problem.

My boy is 2 and a half and has been dry for about 6 months. But he will not have a poo on the toilet or potty.

    WHAT TO DO??????

Just started toilet training on Friday.  Yesterday wasn't great and apart from one accident today he's been brilliant and now tells us that he needs a pee.  Our problem now is poos - he desperately needs one but just won't do it on the toilet.  Every time he has the 'urge' he goes all whingey and asks for a nappy on.  I sit him on the toilet but he just refuses and asks for a nappy.  What do I do?!!!
