so glad i found this thread my dd is exactly the same, she suffers really badly with constipation and has to have movical daily. wouldnt mind so much but the medicine makes it very mucky! really dont know what to do as she will just hold it for days and get blocked up if i dont put the nappy on for her to do it, she starts nursery after half term for a couple of mornings a week, they said its not a problem and they will still take her but i would really rather she was clean before. She pratically taught herself to wee on the potty and is fine with the toilet for that. Think i will try the bribery route now and get a star chart, one week of poos on the pot and she can have a prezzie, wish me luck! and fingers crossed it works

I'm not going through this at the moment but I work with children who are still in nappies or use nappies when they need to wee or poo and one thing we advise parents is that it's fine to put a nappy on but make sure they use the nappy in the bathroom so they associate going to the toilet with the correct place. Obviously with younger children the potty can be wherever it's needed but with older children who wee in the toilet already then if a nappy goes on for a poo, then they need to use it in the bathroom.

It's good to see so many of us have the same problem! I started toilet training 3 weeks ago and he's cracked the peeing bit with only a few accidents at the beginning. I put him straight into pants and he was fine, but like the rest of your lo's...he wouldn't poop. Then all of a sudden he pooed in the loo for 2 days running and we thought we had cracked it - not to be! By the Monday he was holding it in again, and did so for the whole week. by the Friday he was crying cos he was in pain...but still wouldn't poo. Had to take him to the docs and he was given Movicol and jelly suppositories. the Movicol helped and I also took a step back and put him pull-ups rather than proper pants. That helped and he was happy to poo in nappy. Now yesterday again we're back to not wanting to poop at all! Who knows what's going on in that little mind of his!

Gabys been weeing in the loo since may but would only poo in her nappy till recently (thats about 6 months of holding it all day!) then suddenly she's started doing it in her pants again - i hope this is the next stage towards her doing it on the loo - everyone says its really common so Im still (6 months on) not making a big deal of it!!!

Hi
Just read your post as i am having EXACTLY the same issue with my little girl who will be 3 in december !
Ava has been potty trained for about 6 months also BUT... will only poo in her nappy ! She will happily go and sit on the potty or toilet on her own, wipe herself etc but will NOT poo on the potty/toilet.
She knows when she needs a poo as she either tells me and asks me to get her a nappy !! OR she will go and get a nappy and wipes out of cupboard, lie herself on the floor.... She will then go and sit on the stairs for a few mins.. come back in, lie down, undo tabs on nappy and wait for me to wipe her bum and dispose of dirty nappy !!! -
I have tried hiding nappies, telling her we have run out, telling her she wount be able to start pre school on jan ( she wont if she doesnt get out of nappies ! ) .. letting her scream and cry for one.. nothing works.. she just holds it in.
My friend is a child minder and she told me to stand my ground.. refuse and she will just do it in her knickers as she will have no other choice.. she then will soon realise its not nice and start to use the potty...
In theroy it was good advice.. howver, Ava just holds it in until i put her a nappy on for bed and she then sneaks the poo out !!
I am due to have a baby in 5 weeks and also wanted her out of nappies as the thought ( and expense of having 2 kids in pampers nappies worries me ! )
I have looked up on the internet and it does seem a common problem... but there was no miracle advice.... one mum said her 4 yr old was still doing it in a nappy when she got in from school !!!
OMG I DONT WANT THAT !!

WE HAS THIS WITH DS, HE WOULD ONLY POO IN HIS NAPPY AT NIGHT TIME OR DURING THE DAY HE WOULD ASK FOR A NAPPY SO HE COULD GO, WE WOULD PUT HIS BED TIME NAPPY ON HIM AND AS SOON AS HE LOOKED LIKE HE WAS GOING TO GO WE WOULD TAKE OF HIS NAPPY AND SIT HIM ON THE TOILET AND MAKE A BIG FUSS OF HIM, AND AFTER HE HAD BEEN WE WOULD PHONE NANNY TO TELL HER, IT WAS JUST TO GET HIM USED TO IT. IT DIDN;T TAKE TO LONG, I AM GOING THROGH IT NOW WITHH DD WHO IS 2 AND SHES GREAT AND WILL ALWWAYS GO POO ON THE TIOLET DURING THE DAY, HOPEFULLY IT WONT TAKE YOU TO LONG
GOOD LUCK WITH IT

hi, have a look in the 'Pooing in the Toilet' thread as it is addressing similar concerns that you have. Best of luck.

dd (nearly 3) has been fully potty trained in the day for about 6 months but she wont poo in potty or toilet. if she needs to go she knows how to hold it in and will go about 10 mins after i put bedtime nappy on then shout to be changed. ive tried keeping her up later but she just holds it in for longer, ive put her in bed with no nappy but she holds it in for 2-3 days till she finally poos the bed (what a mess) ive even resorted to bribery. told her if she does a poo on the toilet she'll get chocolate as a reward but even that hasnt convinced her.
any ideas? ive got lo due jan/feb and really want her completely out of nappies by then

LOL - you're lucky!!! Gaby used to do that, now she just does it in her pants!!! I'd love it if she went back to pooing just in her nappy. We are not alone!!!!
