Hi!
I too am a first time mum, my lo is now 27 mths now and looking to start potty training over the next few weeks! eeeekkkk. I read the Gina Ford potty training in 1 week quite a good read. I don't think I will be able to potty train in just a week, but there are some good tips in there and tells you what signs to look out for in your child. HTH.

My son is 20 months old, how do i know if it is time to potty train? and then how do i go about potty training? really dont know what i am doing as never had to do this. are there any good books around?

My dd was 2 in June and am expecting another lo in 2 weeks. Wanted her out of nappies b4 baby arrived so decided to give it a try during school hols in August while she had no groups, swimming etc to go to. Stayed home for 3 days - day 1 was a disaster (got thru 8 pairs of knickers) but kept going and only had 1-2 accidents for the next couple of days. Walked to the local shop on day 4 and by day 5 we drove my husband to the airport (about 1 hour away) with no accidents and she told me when she needed me to stop.
I didn't really follow any books although did read Gina Ford. I think the best advise is give it a go for a few days and if they don't show any signs of improving then probably not ready. Also, once you decide to do it, don't revert back to nappies when you go out as it will just confuse them.
DD has been out of nappies for 2 1/2 months now and although she still has the odd accident it tends to only be when she's told me and we don't get to a toilet in time rather than her not knowing.
Good luck!
