i asked hv why its 6 months now and she said its much easyer to wean at 6 month as there stitting up and can go straight to food with cows milk in! my dd is 4 months tomorrow and i ave just started with baby rice in the afternoon and she loves it. both my boys were weaned at 3 months and they have such a healthy appertite at 3 and 6 yrs xx
hi, my little girls 15 weeks and she started sleeping through the night around 3weeks ago. For the last week though, she has been getting up in the middle of the night for extra feeds. at first i thought maybe thats what happens but then i noticed her looking at my food when i eat and trying to grab my fork or spoon!
i tried her with 1teaspoon of babyrice 2 days ago..she ate that very happily, but didn’t finish of her milk. I gave her babyrice again today and she loved it. i think she would’ve kept eating if i had made more!
do they usually drink less milk when they have babyrice? and can you give the babyrice at any time of the day?
i weaned my ds at 20 weeks , i planned to stat my dd at the same age bt shes had really bad reflux since she was bout 2 weeks old. she wasnt gaining wait properly and all the hv said was it should improve when she was weaned. wot did they expect ,e to do till then? anyway when she was 12 weeks i started giving her pureed fruit and baby rice , she is still quite a sicky baby bt the reflux has def improved and she is gaining weight. shes 18 weeks now and has 2 meals a day. u def no wot is right 4 your own baby .
every child is different so as every parents way of raising their kids. If u want 2 wean ur child then its ur choice. I started on puree food when i was 15 wks old and now i'm 28 yrs old it did no harm 2 me so as my brother and my sis who r in their 20's as well. I did the same with my daughter. Gave her baby rice when she was 15 wks she loved it and had no problems at all and still it never done any harm and she's nearly 4 yrs old now. Will still do the same with this 1 as well.
i'm sorry but some of u have been out of order on this thread in my opinion becky came on here for advice not scrutiny neither have others who posted on here in my opinion and that is all it it is that a mopther can tell what there child want's and needs my first child who is 4 was weened at 3 month my second child who is 17 week i am weening now due to both of them being ready jack my second child loves his baby rice has no problen digesting it and my health visitor is happy with that i think mothers should listen to there hearts and open opinions some babies will be ready earlier than others same as some develop earlier than others every child is different 6 months is a guideline not set in stone xx
Hi sqeek - I think 19 weeks if absolutely fine - like you say you know your baby best. My LO was on 5 - 6 8 oz bottles a day sometimes only going 2.5 hours and then draining 8 oz and looking for more. I tried him at 17 weeks but he wasn't really bothered. Tried again at 19 weeks and we're now on 2 meals a day (23 weeks). I've not reduced his milk as this is still his main form of nutrition until 6 months but he is very happy and sleeps so much better. HV's are all different and one has told me off but another one has encouraged it. GOod Luck and trust yourself x
Hi everyone, my son is 19 weeks and has been very interested in food for ages now, he stares longily at us when we eat and is always trying to eat his fist, As a first time mam i have taken advice from my health visitor but for some reason she is adament that 4 months is equal to 20 weeks and had a right go when i sugested trying weaning at 17 weeks. To make things worse she told me we could discuss it at his 4 month check and not to do anything till then, i got his appointment letter yesterday for end of april. He will be 22 weeks! I feel like i know my child best and as he seems to have lost interest in milk i'm gonna start weaning this week.
Sorry you dont all agree with me weaning early, everyones allowed there opinion, i dont give my little one foods through bottles im not stupid, he takes them off a spoon, and is loving them there filling him more and hes sleeping alot better from been full, instead of been pumped full of milk and just throwing it all back up,
yours Emma
my lo is 11wks and is on baby rice now for supper yes i know what u will all say its stupid ectect but i did this with my son who may i add is now 5 and done him no harm little miss is my friend and she mixes rusk wiv milk not add to bottle and its helped her son a great deal xx each to there own i say sorry if u dnt agree with early weaning
my dd was weaned at 14 weeks through the advice of a paedtrician for other health reasons i would not have done this if it wasnt for other reasons, weaning at 8 weeks is mad there body is no way ready for this
You know, when my daughter was 10 weeks, I thought I'd made a routine with feeding, I thought we were sorted, then she had a growth spurt and that particular weekend we were having a BBQ with loads of people over. Dd chose this particular weekend to increase her appetite, she was on my boob every 30 minutes for at least 20 minutes. I just ended up laying in bed crying my eyes out becuase this child was constantly feeding, it was like it for another 2 days and then calmed down.
The way I looked at it was that I'd taken maternity leave, for what reason did I need to rush around and do stuff? I could sit there and constantly feed .. It didn't bother me at all when she had growth spurts and needing feeding all day. That's part of being a Mummy ..
Little-Miss - are you joking?
Did you never read anywhere that you mustn't put food in a a baby's bottle??
Imho that's just irresponsible.
Hi im all for early weaning, my little boys only just 11 weeks old and is already eating baby foods only small amounts, I tried him with rusks in his milk at 8 weeks as he was still hungry after a 7oz feed but hungry baby milk just bunged him up, He loves bananna rusks with his milk, hes not having regular foods for his tea and a little pudding afterwards.
We tried this as he was having 9oz of milk ad still been hungry, the food fills him alot more and hes very content afterwards - he was trying to chomp on his hands alot -
Health visitors should not be recommending early weaning as it goes against the Department of Health's guidelines. Who would you rather trust?
The guidelines have changed because of new research, not just to annoy people. Early weaning poses a risk of allergies and this could happen at any time in later life so please don't listen to people who say 'I weaned my 10 year old daugher when she was 15 weeks and she is fine' - because she might not be 'fine' in another year.
Nothing has more calories than milk, whether breast or formula, so if your baby is hungry, give him or her more milk.
whomever you ask you will get a different answer.
i started DS on baby rice at 16/17 weeks...a tiny amount to try...for similar reasons to what you have given...chomping on hand, interested in food etc
these days the guidelines are 6 months...2 months before DS was born it was 4 months...my mother had a friend who gave her 2 month old scrambled egg but that was 30 years ago...defo dont do that LOL!
as a PP said tho the best thing to do is trust your instincts and watch for any reactions...start with plain stuff like babyrice and only a tiny amount...if your babys gut isnt ready you will know it by what comes out the other end, altho that CAN take up to 3 days.
I mentioned to my HV about giving DS a little bit earlier than guidelines, and she said that every baby is different, watch out for allergies...stay clear or be very careful with the usual problem foods...for example gluten shouldnt be given before 6 months as a babys gut isnt quite ready yet...gluten is your flour/wheat based things mainly, and use breast or formula milk for mixing runny things up till 6 months as cows milk is not only hard to digest but has a lot less vitamins etc
Go with your instincts!!! If you think your baby is ready for a bit of baby rice then just try them its not going to do them any drastic harm. My HV told me 6 months as per current "guidlines" (until they change AGAIN) then when i saw another HV she said just wait til 17 wks minimum and then just start trying them if you feel they are ready, they are your babies and you know them best!!. If they dont want it or aren't ready for it they wont take to it. I started my twins last wknd at exactly 17wks after they started to look longingly at us when we are eating, hand chomping not being satisfied by their milk but not ready for the next level up so i started them on 1 teaspoon of organic baby rice and the LOVED IT!!! Its such tiny quantities but can make such a difference.
Sounds to me like your baby is the same, i completely understand why you posted the question and of course you are gonna get differing responses BUT there is no right or wrong way and i think having a baby or 2 in my case makes you realise that they are all individuals,
HTH Sam xx
I must admit that I'm a bit put out that you deem my post as patronising. If that's the case then my HV is a real cow!
I get that you were asking what risks you would be exposing the baby to by early weaning, I understand that was your question but I wanted to say that you didn't 'have' to wean now and that actually those 'signs' weren't signs just normal development.
By reading your post I was supposed to 'know' that you were a health professional.
I find your post more negative - reading it you come across like some of the people who ask for advice knowing full well what you want to do,and so just brush aside or complain about anything contrary to what you already want to do. Of course you were going to agree with the other poster, it said what you wanted.
I'll think before I post advice again that's for sure.
