1st weaning foods are not really meant to fill your lo up they are called 1st tastes to get them used to food milk is still the priority. all depends on age of lo as well i waited until 6 months to start weaning and only used rice for a week then moved on to carott swede apple pear etc etc as she was 6 months she took to foods really well so i didn't hang around tried her with weetabix etc and gave up the purees very quickly but obviously if younger can't have gluten/wheat until 6 months+. annabel karmel books are good for ideas for purees the complete baby/ toddler one is the best imo.

I tried mash potato first mixed with a little formula milk to give a familiar taste, carrot, swede, brocolli, cauliflower, apple, pear theres quite a mixture. Butternut squash is a good one as well its not a harsh taste my los love it. It tastes pretty much like pumpkin if uve ever tried that. I know what u mean about baby rice my los werent too keen but now they eat anything.
