I have also had this problem with bfc, i only ordered a couple of books, n then they kept on sending me statements for books i did not recieve, i am now seeking legal advice cus i did not order the books they were charging me with, i've neva had to sign for any of the books that i ordered n piad for they were just leaved on my doorstep,

so i am guessing that they sent the books out and leaved them on my doorstep, n they went walkies, i really dont know, all i know is i not sign for the books yet they r charging me for these so called books i neva recieved

Personally I recommend Red house for books. Discounted lovely books and free postage. As I live away from relatives I often send birthday presents from them to the parent who wraps it up and saves me a fortune in postage!!

As for BFC I would suggest that anyone with problems contact Bounty direct. As the end of the day if they are allowing there packs hold material from a company who are causing parents so many problems then they need to be aware. they can then consider if tehy wish to be associated with this company.

I had the same thing with them - they kept sending me editors choice and when i rang to speak to them they said they would stop but didnt. In the end i got really fed up because you have to pay the P&P to send them back every time, i called asked them how many books i needed to buy to fulfil my membership they said 1, so i bought the book they had sent me and i cancelled and said if they sent me anything else i would call trading standards. Steer clear of them.

im with books for children and they kept sending me the editors choice so i rang them up and told them that i didnt want it no more and was going to cancel my membership so now they never send the editors choice and i get 20% discount everytime i buy off them because i was going to cancel i think they are ok i understand though why you dont like them when they do that to you

I just contacted with the people from Consumer Direct.I received yesterday a bill from Books for Children , £20 for books returned (not mine as usual) plus a warning that if I don't order by the end of next week they are going to charge me £60!

Book People is a better place to order from. They've still got huge range for a fraction (and i do mean a fraction) of the price. And it doesn't tie you into a contract or anything.

Watchdog are well aware of this company. They feature regularly. I will tell them what happened, if they ask you. I still have my emails about the books that were mistakenly sent out, and the complete ineptness that they show. When I received the books, amongst other things I said in capital letters that I had cancelled my account several months before hand.

Their response, we are very sorry to hear that you wish to cancel your account. pmsl.

I dont think though I have the emails before that when I wanted to know how much I had bought and that I was cancelling.

I had problems with BFC too.

They were fine at 1st & i ordered one editors choice on my 2nd order. But after that i was constantly getting parcels left at my house even tho i'd not ordered anything & statements saying my bill had gone up to X amount of pounds. I kept some of the books but others i sent back using their collection system which costs £3 each time. I had to ring more than twice to get them to pick up a parcel, they then went on to charge me for using the service 3 times even tho they'd only come once!!! And sometimes on my statement i'd see book titles which i'd never even been sent!!

I'd kept all statements so looked thru to see what i'd kept, what had been returned & what i'd been charged for unnecessarily for, then i rang them to say i wanted to cancel membership, they tried to talk me out of it saying they'd no longer send editors choice & would send vouchers for money off my next order (like i'm gonna order anything from them again?!).

A week later i sent an email insisting i wanted to cancel membership cos i was far fom happy with their service. They sent one back saying they'd send me vouchers etc etc again. No thank you. From then on haven't heard a thing from them.

Certainly would NOT recommend them & if anyone said they're gonna use them i'd seriously advise against it.

I have just made a complaint through the Watchdog website and hopefully they will get in touch.  If needs be would any of you be prepared to give your story if they were interested. I just think the more of us that complain the better chance at this company being exposed.

Normally you have to sign for the books but once the courier left a parcel next to my door and a card inside the letter box saying that the books are outside (stupid thing to do),when I arrived at home I saw the parcel.I contacted them to explain the situation and to return the books, weeks later they were sending me a bill for the books I returned and nobody ordered (they weren't the editor's choice). After several phone calls they canceled this bill but they came up with other things like I said on my previous post.I was so desperate to leave in peace without them that I ordered a set of books that according to the magazine they fulfill the deceiving membership.Luckily I received the bill before the books and to my shock the books were almost £15 pounds more expensive without explanation and still I was 4 books away! this isn't finished because they were charging me on the same bill £64 for a set of Penguin books I didn't order.I sent mail and no reply. When the courier came I refused the deliveries obviously.Last week  I received a second bill for the books but this time only one set and the books were returned with the courier .Again no reply to my mail and they kept me waiting long time for the call so I ended hunging up.

How did you manage to get rid of them? I'm desperate.

Thanks fr your advice. I have only brought a couple of sets of books so will find out how many I need to go to get rid of them! Really wish I never bothered - it was never worth the hassle and now being pregnant again just don't want the stress of having to contact them EVERY month to sort out their mistakes!!

The only way, I found is to threaten legal action.

My problem with them started when I wanted to know how many books I had bought that counted towards my commitment. As you will be aware, not all the books count. I bought hundreds, tbh. The first email was ignored.

I emailed them back requesting the info again. Again this was ignored.

Emailed them again, requesting the info again, and said that they have a legal obligation to give myself, the customer, the information, and that they have ignore my previous requests.

Few hours later, result, answered back. Had one book to go. Ordered that one, paid for it, cancelled the account.  I did this by email and mentioned that I had fulfilled my obligation, and I am making a formal, legal request to close the account.

Months passed, heard nothing until I received a package from them.  Emailed them, saying that although I had cancelled and closed the account, that although I had no dealing with them, I had received books, which they needed to come and collect at their expense.

Several emails later, bills for the books, plus late fees, I flipped and again threatened them with legal action. I could prove that the account was closed because I still had all the confirmations.

Again told they would send someone out to collect. By this time I had said that I would return them via Royal Mail (which is cheaper) but they declined.

No-one ever came for the Books, in the end they gave me them as a good will gesture.

Editors choice, log in weekly and make sure that they are cancelled. This was the only thing that I never had a problem with.

If you contact them, email them, They cannot deny that they never received a thing as long as your keep them.

I have come home before and found a box on my doorstep - they are cheeky buggers!

Going to write into every magazine/newspaper I can think off and expose these scammers - mother and baby, practical parenting etc etc etc

They will wish they never took me for a ride!!
